The Ecumenical Heresy of Pope Francis: “The Lord is Good and Will Save Everyone”
There is a popular ecumenical idea that claims that everyone will be saved, regardless of their beliefs or deeds. Many Christian leaders today have embraced the Pope's popular notion. It claims that we are all part of one big happy ecumenical family. We are all God's children, and each faith is a different way of approaching the same God. This theory that no one is going to be lost originated in the Garden of Eden, when Satan defied God’s warning and assured Eve, “Ye shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4). Here, Satan argues that faith and obedience to God’s word are meaningless since, according to him, no one will be lost, everyone will be saved, and hell will be empty.
On September 15, 2021, Pope Francis had an in-flight press conference on his way back from his trip to Slovakia. During the interview, the Pope stated the following: “Respect everyone. The Lord is good and will save everyone — do not say this aloud [laughs] — but the Lord wants to save everyone.” The concept that everyone will be saved is at the heart of his encyclical Fratelli Tutti which says: “God works in other religions, and rejects nothing” and “God’s love is the same for everyone, regardless of religion. Even if they are atheists, his love is the same. When the last day comes, and there is sufficient light to see things as they really are, we are going to find ourselves quite surprised.”
If this is true, then Jesus died in vain. His sacrifice wasn't needed. Not only did Jesus come to this earth in vain, but everything else He said in the Bible was in vain. And for Christ to speak about hell, well, according to the ecumenical movement, He must have been dishonest or delusional because nobody is going to hell. Repentance is also meaningless. You can do anything you want and live your life the way you want because nobody will suffer any consequences. By the way, we don't need to evangelize anyone either. We don't have to share the Three Angels' Messages, the everlasting gospel, or the final warning message because, according to the modern ecumenical movement, God has been redefined and He doesn't care about any of those things.
Although Pope Francis' ideas are popular, they represent major theological errors. They are dangerous assumptions. They overlook evil and make a mockery of God and His Son's sacrifice. They are preaching the gospel of Antichrist rather than the gospel of Christ.
