Today, in the Archdiocese of Jaro, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Anniversary of the Dedication of the Cathedral Church of Jaro.

On May 26, 1965, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Cathedral was dedicated after it was damaged because of the 1948 Lady Caycay Earthquake and was restored during the time of Archbishop Jose Maria Cuenco. The dedication was also made possible after the freestanding altar was erected to adapt to the reforms brought about by the Second Vatican Council. The dedication was held on the eve of the Centenary of the Canonical Er****on of the Diocese of Jaro on May 27, 1865.

The Solemnity of the Anniversary of the Dedication of the Cathedral Church is an important in the celebration in the liturgical calendar of that particular diocese because it celebrates and honors the role of the Cathedral as the Mother Church of the diocese - the central church where the liturgical life of the people of God is magnified and where the bishop sits and exhorts to the faith as shepherd of the flock God has entrusted to his care.

COLLECT
God of majesty, you choose living stones to fashion for yourself an eternal dwelling place. Increase the spiritual gifts you have given to your Church, that your faithful people may continue to grow and so build up the new and heavenly Jerusalem. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

UNVEILING THE BANNER OF 'QUID NUNC' JARO AT 75
fans

-------------------------------------------------

QUID NUNC?
What now after Pentecost?

In Acts 2, after the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, the Church was moved from fear to mission. Peter stood with the Eleven and proclaimed Christ with courage. The people who heard him were “cut to the heart” and asked: “What are we to do?” (Acts 2:37)

Peter answered: “Repent and be baptized… and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

As we launch Jaro@75, we ask the same question: Quid nunc? What now?

Now we renew our faith.
Now we walk together as one Church.
Now we form communities rooted in prayer, communion, and mission.
Now we proclaim Christ with courage, joy, and love.

Jaro@75 is not only a celebration of years. It is a call to mission. Like the apostles at Pentecost, we are sent by the Holy Spirit to witness to Christ in our families, parishes, schools, and communities.

Quid nunc?
Filled with the Holy Spirit, we go forth.
We remember with gratitude.
We celebrate with faith.
We move forward in mission.

Come, Holy Spirit, renew the Church of Jaro and send us to proclaim Christ.

WE WEAR RED ON PENTECOST SUNDAY

On Pentecost Sunday, the Church wears red as a powerful symbol of the Holy Spirit’s fire that descended upon the Apostles in the Upper Room. This event, described in the Acts of the Apostles, marks the moment when the frightened disciples were transformed into courageous witnesses of Christ. The Holy Spirit came like a strong driving wind and appeared as tongues of fire resting upon each of them. From that moment, their hearts were no longer ruled by fear, but by divine courage, wisdom, and love.

The color red in the liturgy represents this sacred fire. It is not a destructive fire, but a life-giving flame that purifies, strengthens, and renews. It signifies the burning love of God poured into the hearts of believers and the zeal that moved the Apostles to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. Red also reminds us of the sacrifices made by the martyrs, who bore witness to Christ with courage even unto death, sustained by the same Holy Spirit.

Wearing red on Pentecost is more than a tradition; it is a visible expression of faith. It reminds the faithful that the Holy Spirit is not a distant reality of the past, but an active presence in the life of the Church today. The same Spirit who descended at Pentecost continues to guide, sanctify, and strengthen believers in every generation. Through the sacraments, especially Confirmation, Catholics receive this Spirit who equips them to live out their mission as disciples of Christ in the modern world.

Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Church” because it is the day when the Church began her public mission. Before Pentecost, the Apostles were hidden in fear; after receiving the Holy Spirit, they went forth boldly to preach, baptize, heal, and form communities of believers. This transformation shows that the Church is not sustained by human strength alone, but by the power of God working within her.

For the faithful today, wearing red is a call to renewal. It invites each person to open their heart more fully to the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to ignite faith, strengthen hope, and deepen love. It is a reminder to live with courage in proclaiming truth, with compassion in serving others, and with devotion in following Christ.

Thus, Pentecost Sunday in red is a celebration of fire—not a fire that consumes, but a fire that transforms hearts and renews the world through God’s Spirit.
