Ash Wednesday 2026

The season of Lent has started through the Ash Wednesday Mass in our school.

In Naglaoa-an NHS, we always observe the Ash Wednesday since it is also a day dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

The whole world commemorates the feast day of one of the martyrs of the Catholic Church, the feast day of the Martyrdom of St. Valentine.

We have Valentine's Day because of St. Valentine, a Saint who gave up his life for Christ just to protect the sanctity of marriage.

Prayer to Saint Valentine:

Pray, then, O holy Martyr, for the Faithful, who are so persevering in celebrating thy memory. The day of Judgment will reveal to us all thy glorious merits. Oh! intercede for us, that we may then be made thy companions at the right hand of the Great Judge, and be united with thee eternally in heaven.
Antiphon: This Saint fought, even unto death, for the law of his God, and feared not the words of the wicked; for he was set upon a firm rock.

Let us pray:

Grant, we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that we who solemnize the festival of blessed Valentine, Thy Martyr, may, by his intercession, be delivered from all the evils that threaten us. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Who is St. Valentine?

Saint Valentine is a Catholic saint and martyr from the early Christian Church, most commonly believed to be a priest or bishop who lived in 3rd-century Rome during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Claudius II.

Why is he connected to love?
According to tradition, Valentine secretly celebrated marriages for Christian couples when they were forbidden by the emperor. Because of his courage and compassion, he became associated with faithful love, sacrifice, and devotion. Over time, his feast day February 14 became linked with expressions of romantic and charitable love.

Saint Valentine was eventually imprisoned for his Christian faith. Stories say he showed kindness even to his jailer and those around him, and he died as a martyr around the year 269 AD. The Church honors him not just as a symbol of romance, but as someone who lived self-giving love rooted in Christ.

His legacy reminds us that love isn't just a fleeting feeling or a commercial trend, it is an act of courage, a commitment to others, and a light that persists even in the most challenging times. Today, we celebrate not just our partners, but the enduring spirit of sacrifice and connection that St. Valentine championed centuries ago.

The Naglaoa-anians prayed at the grotto in memorial of the Feast day Our Lady of Lourdes.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us, pray for all the sick members of our community which includes our stakeholders and alumni. Amen.
