FOOD FOR YOUR SOUL
Devotional #163
Title: The Exclusive Bridge
Text: Matthew 11:27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
Reflection:
In this single verse, Jesus makes one of the most breathtaking, exclusive, and authoritative claims in all of human history. He completely shatters the idea that He was merely a good moral teacher or a wise philosopher. First, He claims absolute sovereignty: "All things have been committed to me by my Father." Jesus is not just a participant in the universe; He is the CEO, the King, the one holding the keys to every molecule, every moment, and every human soul.
Then, Jesus addresses the deepest longing of the human heart: the desire to know God. Throughout history, humanity has tried to build ladders to reach the divine. We use philosophy, morality, religion, and intense spiritual practices to try and figure God out. But Jesus stops all of our striving with one definitive statement: "No one knows the Father except the Son."
God is not a puzzle you can solve with a high IQ, nor is He a mountaintop you can climb with good behavior. God is entirely inaccessible to us on our own. Because Jesus is the only one who has existed intimately with the Father from eternity past, He is the only one qualified to introduce us to Him. Jesus is not just a way to God; He is the exclusive bridge.
But the verse ends with an incredibly beautiful note of grace: "...and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." Knowing God is not an achievement; it is a gift. You cannot force your way into the throne room of heaven, but the Son of God has graciously chosen to open the door, take you by the hand, and reveal the Father's heart to you. If you know God today, it is not because you were smart enough to find Him. It is because Jesus loved you enough to open your eyes.
Reflection Questions:
1. Jesus said, "All things have been committed to me." How does knowing that Jesus has absolute authority over all things bring peace to the parts of your life that feel out of control today?
2. Do you ever catch yourself trying to "earn" your way to God through good behavior, rather than resting in the fact that knowing Him is a gift of revelation?
3. How does it make you feel to realize that out of billions of people, Jesus specifically chose to open your eyes and reveal the Father's love to you?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I stand in awe of Your absolute authority. All things have been committed to Your hands, including my life, my future, and my salvation. I confess that I often try to reach God through my own efforts, my own intellect, and my own good works. Thank You for reminding me that I cannot figure the Father out on my own. You are the only bridge. I am deeply humbled and eternally grateful that You chose to reveal the Father to me. Thank You for opening my blind eyes. Help me to live today in the joyful, restful reality of Your grace. In Your majestic name, Amen.
