𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤:
Ki Tavo
כִּי־תָבוֹא
When You Come

Deuteronomy 26 begins the fiftieth reading from the Torah with the words, “Then it shall be, when you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance” (26:1). In Hebrew, the words for “when you enter” are ki tavo. This Torah portion begins with laws regarding first fruits and tithes. It goes on to discuss covenant renewal, after which Moses recites the blessings guaranteed to Israel for covenant obedience and warns of the curses for apostasy.

TORAH: DEUTERONOMY 26:1-29:8

Deuteronomy 22:13-21 describes the law concerning a husband who accuses his wife of not being a virgin at marriage, requiring the matter to be investigated and judged truthfully.

Deuteronomy 6:4–9:
Israel is commanded to love Yahweh wholeheartedly and to keep His words constantly in their hearts. Parents are instructed to teach His commandments diligently to their children and make them part of everyday life.

In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

𝘞𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘗𝘵𝘳. 𝘑𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘯 𝘎𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘭

Back when we were kids, sunset was our alarm clock. It is a warning that play time is over and we have to go back home.

In the biblical understanding of time, the day begins at sunset. Evening gives way to a new day.

It is a picture of transition—a moment when one season gives way to another.

Elul is a season like that.

As the sixth month of the Hebrew calendar, Elul leads us toward the seventh month, when the Fall Feasts begin: Yom Teruah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot.

But before we enter these appointed times, perhaps Yahweh is inviting us to prepare something more important than our schedules… which is our hearts.

𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞:

The Hebrew word 𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙪𝙫𝙖𝙝 carries the idea of returning or turning back.

Sometimes, we don’t realize that we have wandered. We become busy. Distracted. Comfortable. One compromise follows another, and slowly, we find ourselves walking in a direction we never intended to take.

𝐄𝐥𝐮𝐥 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐤:
𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙢 𝙄 𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜?
𝘼𝙢 𝙄 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙔𝙖𝙝𝙬𝙚𝙝?

“𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮,” 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐘𝐚𝐡𝐰𝐞𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬. — 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝟑:𝟕

Teshuvah is not just feeling remorse for what we have done. It is a redirection.

It is turning our hearts back toward Yahweh—It is coming home.

𝐖𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭:
𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙙?
𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣?
We ask whether there is anything we need to surrender.

𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞:
𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚.
𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧.
𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣.
𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚.

Elul is an invitation to prepare—not simply for another season on the calendar, but for the One whom the appointed times point toward, Yeshua.

𝐒𝐨 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬, 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞.
𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬.
𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐘𝐚𝐡𝐰𝐞𝐡.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
“𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙈𝙚...”

Because sometimes, the most important journey we can make is 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧—𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞.

𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐛𝐨𝐠 𝐧𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐰, 𝐮𝐰𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐚! 😊

Shalom!
