Like the Samaritan woman who was trying to satisfy the thirst in her heart from John 4, the Israelites were also doing the same thing as mentioned in Jeremiah 2:13. They forsook God, the fountain of living water, and dug their own broken cisterns that could never truly satisfy them.
The Samaritan woman kept trying to fill the emptiness in her heart, but Jesus offered her the Living Water. His offer is still at hand for us today, yet many of us continue to:
1. Forsake Him
2️⃣ Dig our own broken cisterns
We keep searching for satisfaction in other things, but only Jesus can truly fill the emptiness in our hearts.
God knows the very issue of your heart. He comes not to condemn you, but to embrace you with His love and grace.
When the Samaritan woman finally found the One who could truly satisfy her, she left her jar behind. Jesus said that whoever comes to Him will never thirst again. He alone can quench the deepest thirst of our souls, and whoever believes in Him will have a spring of living water flowing within them.
What kind of jar are you carrying today? What broken cistern are you digging?
Only Jesus can truly satisfy us. He is the Messiah, the Living Water our souls have been longing for.
