I BELIEVE IN ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH
Catholics profess these four marks of the Church. They are not simply descriptionsโthey are gifts given by Christ and signs of the Church He established.
One โ The Church is one because she has one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, and is united under Christ, her Head (Eph. 4:4โ6). Despite differences in culture and language, Catholics around the world share the same faith.
Holy โ The Church is holy because Christ is holy and gave Himself to sanctify her. Though her members are sinners in need of conversion, the Church continually offers the means of holiness through the Word of God, the sacraments, and a life of grace.
Catholic โ "Catholic" means universal. The Church is sent to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples, in every nation and every age, preserving the fullness of the faith entrusted by Christ.
Apostolic โ The Church is founded on the Apostles, faithfully hands on their teaching, and continues their mission through the bishops, united with the successor of St. Peter, the Pope.
These four marks remind us that the Church is not merely a human institution but the Body of Christ, founded by Him and guided by the Holy Spirit until the end of time.
