Happy Easter Everyone,
I would want to reflect on when I became an Apostol for Holy Week 2026.
This week has been a big experience for me, because I went and represented the SACoSA scholars among the 12 Apostles. I was nervous, and even surprised at first. Like all the other scholars, I was so busy with university requirements and activities that I thought it was impossible for me to satisfactorily fulfill the role. But I managed to gather courage and do my Apostle duties by asking God, and St. John and Peter, to give me the strength to go through the Holy Week.
From the start of the Apostol duties on March 27, all the way to Easter Sunday, I did my duties for God and for the church. This time also allowed me to reflect more on the Gospels that were read during Holy Week. It allowed me to expand my knowledge on what I already know, and to relate more to God's Word in my life. This experience that I had as one of the Apostles has changed the way that I look at the gospels and how I relate to God's Word.
I have experienced a lot of new and meaningful memories this holy week. But on Holy Thursday was the one that resonated with me the most. Among Jess washed my feet, just like Jesus did to his Apostles 2000 years ago. I felt that God had now taught me, like how Jesus taught his disciples how to wash the feet of others. I felt humbled and truly blessed. I then went to wash the feet of someone in the crowd. When I chose someone, they were surprised that I chose them. And when I washed their feet, it felt like the Holy Spirit guided me through it. And after I finished, the person got very emotional when I washed their feet, and I comforted them after I was done.
For the youth of today, when we give love it should be unconditional. As God has taught us, love should be given without expecting anything in return. Similar to Jesus washing the apostles’ feet without expecting to be served and revered. It embodied the heart of a servant. Loving our fellowmen unconditionally is important for the future of humanity because unconditional love can help achieve understanding and make peace with others. Being loved unconditionally makes us feel like we can do and achieve anything we have set out to do. And in turn, we can inspire others to share their time and talents with others. If and when every youth does this, they can spread love, positivity, kindness and respect, making the world a better place to live in.
God's Word allowed me to relate and apply these teachings better in my life. I would like to thank God with St. John and St. Peter, Sir Marvin, Tito Christian, and the other Apostles for this opportunity that I was able to experience. Even if I was the youngest in the group, I never felt out of place. I feel very blessed and humbled getting to know God's word more, and I pray that even after this experience, I can still learn more about the Word of God and relate it more in my life and be an inspiration to my fellow youth.
To quote one of my favorite verses, John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This is the essence of the Lenten Season. May we embody this in our everyday lives, to give unconditional love.
Have a blessed Week Everyone!
