Nasa Bibliya ba ang HOLY TRINITY? | Is Holy Trinity biblical?
Panoorin ang sagot at paliwanag sa mock debate video na ito hatid ng The Catholic Faith Guardian.
Ituturo sa video kung paano pabulaanan ang mga argumento ng anti-Catholic laban sa Holy Trinity.
Here's the complete transcipt of the mock debate:
LAY CATHOLIC Vs. PROTESTANT PASTOR
Pastor: Good morning brother! Where are you going?
Catholic: I am going to the Holy Trinity Parish to attend a Mass.
Pastor: Did you know that there is no "Trinity" in the Bible? It is just a Catholic invention.
Catholic: The word "Holy Trinity" which means three persons in one God is really not found in the Bible word-for-word, but the meaning is actually there. It can be found in your favorite Bible - the King James Version in 1 John 5:7.
Pastor: In 1 John 5:7 KJV it says
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
Catholic: See? It's a Protestant Bible. And that verse is says the appropriate meaning of Holy Trinity.
Pastor: But there should only be one God, not three. It's so simple, if we add God the Father (one God), God the Son (one God) and God the Holy Spirit (one God) then there are three Gods. 1 + 1 + 1 is three, not one!
Catholic: You're wrong, Pastor. Because your Arithmetic operation is still at Grade 1 Level. Did you know the very first commandment of God to the mankind? In Genesis 1:28, God commanded to "Go to the world and multiply", not "Go to the world and add". So let us try to multiply. Okay, what is the answer of 1 x 1 x 1? Three or One?
Pastor: One
Catholic: That's right! You cannot just add the nature of God, because there is only one God though it has 3 persons. And it is implied in the Book of Genesis when God created the universe. We will noticed there, that the plural pronoun "Us" and "Our" were frequently used in referring the one God. For example in Gen. 1:26, God said "Let Us make mankind in our image and likeness". And in Gen. 3:22 it says "Look, the man has become like one of Us". Also in Gen. 11:7 God said "Come, Let Us go down there and confuse their language". The plural pronoun "Us" and "Our" means that there were more than one persons during the Creation.
Pastor: The plural pronoun "Us" and "Our" mentioned there is referring to God and his angels.
Catholic: You're wrong again, Pastor. Because an angel is also created being, not a creator. Angels were created by God a little higher than humans (Heb.2:7). Thus, it does not refer to the angels.
Pastor: If it was not angels, then who were with God during the Creation?
Catholic: It is obvious that you did not read the Bible, pastor. Please read John 1:1, 14.
Pastor: In John 1:1,14 it says... "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
Catholic: The "Word" who became flesh is no other than Christ. It was Christ who was with God during the Creation.
Pastor: But where was the Spirit? Trinity is said to be 3 persons, but why only 2 were there?
Catholic: You still didn't read the Book of Genesis. Please read Genesis 1:2
Pastor: In Genesis 1:2 it says
"... And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.)
Catholic: See? The persons who were with God the Father during the Creation were Christ and the Holy Spirit which was hovering in the surface of waters.
Pastor: But we can't find in the Bible which says that the Holy Spirit is God.
Catholic: There actually is. You just didn't read your Bible. You just clip it to your armpit, hence, your bible has a bad odor. Please read Acts 5:3-4.
Pastor:In Acts 5:3-4 it says
"Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land? Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!”
Catholic: See? Ananias had lied to the Holy Spirit. And Peter said that Ananias did not lie to men, but to God. Thus, the Holy Spirit is God. And Christ also is God based in Hebrew 1:8.
Pastor: In Hebrew 1:8 it says
"But to the Son he said, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom."
Catholic: God the Father had said to his Son Christ "Thy throne O God". In this verse, God the Father talks to his Son, not of himself. Also, in Isaias 44:26 it says that God is the "First and Last". While, in Revelation 22:13 Christ claimed to be the "First and Last". Thus, it is very clear that Christ is also God. And the three persons of Trinity was manifested during the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan River. Please read Matthew 3:16-17.
Pastor: In Matthew 3:16-17 it says..
"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, see, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting on him: And see a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Catholic: The one being baptized there was Christ or God the Son (the second person of the Holy Trinity). And there was a voice from heaven which says "this is my beloved Son", which was the voice of God the Father (the first person of the Holy Trinity). And the Holy Spirit (the third person of the Holy Trinity) descended in the form of a dove. Therefore, three persons in one God. Christ himself had used it in his instruction on how to baptize Christians (Matthew 28:19). Please read.
Pastor: In Matthew 28:19 it says..
"Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"
Catholic: See? Christ mentioned three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. However, we wonder why it is using the word "name", not "names". It didn't say "in the names of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit", even if it mentioned three persons. It's because, that was referring only to one God. If there are three persons and three Gods, then it should used the word "names". Apostle Paul also mentioned the three persons in one of his letters. Please read 2 Cor. 13:14.
Pastor: In 2 Corinthians 13:14 it says..
"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen"
Catholic: Apostle Peter also mentioned the three persons in one of his letters. Please read 1 Peter 1:1-2.
Pastor: In 1Peter 1:1-2 it says..
"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you, and peace, be multiplied."
Catholic: Therefore, the meaning of the Holy Trinity is actually found in the Bible, though the word "Trinity" itself is not written word-for-word. Just like the word "Bible" is not also written anywhere in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Yet, but we believed on it. However, even if we knew the existence of three persons in one God, according to the Bible, we still can't comprehend the details of the whole nature of Holy Trinity. Because it is a mystery. That is why we can only use some imperfect analogies to help us explain the concept of Trinity. For example, this 3-in-1 Coffee have 3 ingredients - coffee, sugar, and creamer. But when it is put in the glass and poured with hot water, we will only see one homogeneous liquid. Likewise, Trinity is one nature of God in three persons.
Pastor: I will be leaving now, brother. Because I still have to go to the Park to preach people there.
Catholic: Okay, Pastor. May you'll be guided by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
