St. Clare of Assisi’s Feast Day
August 11 | St. Clare of Assisi Parish

Born into nobility in Assisi in 1194, Clare was a deeply prayerful and kind child. After hearing St. Francis preach, she secretly left her home on Palm Sunday, 1212, to follow God’s call. Francis clothed her in sackcloth and cut her hair—a powerful symbol of her renunciation of the world—as she took her vows to serve Jesus as her heavenly spouse.

Like Francis, Clare lived a life of radical poverty and humility, becoming a living example of his teachings. She is also known for her many miracles. One of the most famous occurred when she displayed a consecrated Host at her convent gates to ward off invaders, who miraculously fled at her prayer. Toward the end of her life, on Christmas Eve 1252, she was too ill to attend Mass in the new Basilica of St. Francis. Suddenly, she received a miraculous vision of the Mass on her wall, experiencing it perfectly from miles away. Because of this, she is honored as the patron saint of television and those with sore eyes.

Clare died on August 11, 1253, and was quickly canonized by Pope Alexander IV in 1255.

Regular Meeting of Lectors and Commentators

The Lectors and Commentators of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish gathered for their regular meeting, strengthening both their ministry and their commitment to serving the liturgy.

Among the updates discussed were the upcoming **profiling activities, seminar with Fr. Irineo Tactac, and the planned pilgrimage to Post**. The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the members’ understanding of their ministry through a **diagnostic test facilitated by Fr. Myke Rodnick D. Laforteza, OFM**.

The assessment covered basic knowledge of the **parts of the Mass, the Bible, liturgical books and items used in the celebration, as well as the proper roles and responsibilities of lectors and commentators**.

More than a meeting, it was a time for learning, reflection, and preparation—reminding everyone that proclaiming the Word and assisting in the liturgy is a ministry that calls for **faith, knowledge, reverence, and continuous formation**.

Gospel
Matthew 14:13-21

When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place, and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over— twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.

We gathered to give thanks for the First Sunday of the month, a time to renew our hope and surrender to His grace. To cap off the joy, we joyfully joined in blessing our beloved birthday celebrants, praying for God’s continued light, strength, and abundant blessings upon them.
