The participants from Cluster 1 had their Day2 Session. The resource speaker tackles the Alay Kapwa program of the CBCP-NASSA and the Piso Para sa Alay Kapwa of the Archdiocese of Cebu. This program calls on the Filipinos to “take responsibility” for one another. As part of the Social Action Work of the Church, the program has sought to respond to the need of a particular community, parish, and other religious institutions extending “charity” to those who are in most dire help. This expresses the call of Pope Francis himself: to go out of the Church vicinity and let others experience God’s love and compassion.

A total of 38 Parish Volunteers from the five barangays of Daanbantayan, namely: Bagay, Logon, Maya, Talisay and Tapilon, and from Tindog, Medellin participated on this first session of the said formation course. Two topics have been discussed and they were the Catholic Social Teaching and Laudato Si. The speakers of the aforementioned topics were Sem. Rey Anthony Baluran and the assigned Community Organizer, Mr. Joshua Labor, respectively. The session was held at the function hall of St. Isidore Parish in Brgy. Maya, Daanbantayan, Cebu.

This group of Parish Volunteers is just one of the four clusters to be trained by the RCAC-RRU. The other three clusters from the different Parishes in the Far North District of the Archdiocese of Cebu are set to start in the next two weeks.

Eighty-seven (87) individuals from the different Parishes in the Far North District of the Archdiocese of Cebu have initially responded to the call to become “Extra-ordinary Missionaries” during the launching of the Extra-ordinary Missionary Formation Course on March 5, 2020 at the Archdiocesan Livelihood Center, San Remigio, Cebu.

Inspired by the message of Pope Francis to go outside the box – beyond the church to be something extraordinary, the RCAC-RRU accepts the call by nurturing ordinary individuals into extra-ordinary missionaries through a formation that equips them with knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes.

The said launching is only the beginning of the month-long formation course which will take-off next week, March 9, 2020. These Parish Volunteers that are to become “Extra-ordinary Missionaries” in the Far North District of Cebu are the seeds that will sprout faith, hope and love, manifest in service preferably for the poor and the vulnerable.

The SACRED FORCES of the Archdiocese of Cebu went to one of the farthest islands in the northernmost part of the province, Brgy. Carnaza, Daanbantayan to extend help for TS Ursula survivors. Cebu Caritas, Inc. and RCAC-RRU who took the lead of the relief operation gave priority to houses that are partially and totally damaged.

Over 500 households received potable water and some non-food items like tent, solar lamp, portable water filter and basic carpentry tools.

Meanwhile, another load of relief goods was distributed to Brgy. Talisay, Daanbantayan. Food items such as rice, canned goods and potable water have reached to over 1,242 households.

Hats off to the people who extended their time and helped in the whole relief distribution: MSWD Daanbantayan, PPC of San Isidro Labrador Parish Brgy. Maya and Brgy. Carnaza, Lay Ministers, BLGU Talisay and Carnaza, Purok officials and BHWs.

Duyog Marawi’s visit in Cebu showed them the real picture of a new home after the great storm. The stories behind the construction were shared especially on how these survivors worked hand in hand in building their houses. The RRU’s concept of converting wastes into energy--the biogas septic tank and their exposure to the CMDRR Map of every partner community were few of the highlights. Lastly, endless stories were told especially, the RRU’s best practices, its strengths and weaknesses in its implementation of projects towards rebuilding and empowering lives. Truly, one of the best achievements in the world is sharing the accomplishments to others. The destruction of typhoon Yolanda is never far from the damages of war. RRU CEBU is born because of typhoon Yolanda but its service will go beyond the storm.

Thank you DUYOG MARAWI for giving RRU CEBU the chance to share its journey. We are one with you in service to to the people of Marawi.
