LET US PRAY | ORATIO IMPERATA
For the Protection of Our Schools and Children

Almighty and loving Father, You are our refuge and strength, our help in times of fear and distress.

We come before You with troubled hearts because of the violence and shootings that have brought fear to our schools, families, and communities.

Lord, protect our children and young people. Keep them safe wherever they study, play, and gather. Grant wisdom and vigilance to parents, teachers, school personnel, and all entrusted with their care.

Comfort those who have been wounded and traumatized, and console families and communities living in grief and fear.

Touch those who carry anger, hatred, loneliness, or thoughts of harming themselves or others. Send them people who will listen and help, and lead them toward healing, peace, and hope.

Grant wisdom and courage to our government officials, law-enforcement agencies, school authorities, and Church leaders. Help us recognize warning signs, address the causes of violence,
protect the vulnerable, and never remain indifferent.

Make our homes places of love and prayer, our schools places of safety and formation, and our communities places where every life is valued and protected.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, watch over us.
Señor Santo Niño, protect the children of Cebu and keep them close to Your loving heart.
Amen.

13TH OF THE MONTH | FATIMA EXPERIENCE

The faithful gathered in prayer and celebration at the Capelinha de Fátima Replica for the 13th of the month of August, a monthly devotion in honor of Our Lady of Fátima.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Cosme “Kokoi” de la Peña, Episcopal Vicar of District 5 - Northwest Parishes of the Archdiocese of Cebu, with the presence of Rev. Fr. Onnie Rosaroso, Parish Priest of Tapilon, Daanbantayan, and our Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Martin Belongilot.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Kokoi reminded the faithful of the importance of forgiving others as we seek forgiveness from Christ. His message reminds us that genuine forgiveness is an essential part of our Christian journey. As we ask God for mercy and forgiveness, we are likewise called to extend the same mercy to others.

Following the Holy Mass, Bro. Reynald Andales gave a brief catechesis on the events surrounding the August 13 & 19, 1917 apparition of Our Lady of Fátima. He recalled how the three shepherd children—Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta—were prevented from going to Cova da Iria on August 13 because the Mayor of Ourem detained them. Our Lady later appeared to them at Valinhos on August 19, 1917 emphasizing the importance of Prayer and Sacrifice.

May Our Blessed Mother continue to guide us closer to her Son, Jesus Christ, and lead us toward genuine repentance, forgiveness, and conversion of heart. May she continue to intercede for us and for the salvation of souls, that through the mercy of her only-begotten Son, we may receive the forgiveness and grace we continually seek.

Our Lady of Fátima, pray for us.

OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL | Many of us have worn a small piece of brown cloth around our necks since childhood—the Brown Scapular—treasuring it because of Our Lady's promise: "Whoever dies wearing this scapular shall not suffer eternal fire."

Yet how many of us truly know the story behind this cherished devotion?

The Brown Scapular is not a good luck charm, a talisman, an amulet, or a magical object. Rather, it is a sacramental of the Church: an outward sign of our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and a reminder that we have freely chosen to place ourselves under her motherly care. It is also a sign of our commitment to imitate her virtues and to live faithfully as disciples of Christ.

This devotion traces its origins to the year 1251 in Aylesford, England. According to Carmelite tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite friar, in a private revelation.

Presenting him with a brown woolen scapular, she said: "This shall be a privilege for you and for all Carmelites: whoever dies clothed in this habit shall not suffer eternal fire."

As the centuries passed, the Church extended the privilege of the Brown Scapular to the faithful who are properly invested in it and who wear it with sincere devotion and perseverance.

The Carmelite Order has always desired to share Our Lady's maternal protection with the whole Church.

By receiving the Brown Scapular, the faithful become spiritually affiliated with the Carmelite family and are invited to participate in its rich tradition of prayer, contemplation, and Marian devotion.

The scapular should never be understood as a guarantee of salvation apart from a life of faith.

Instead, it is a constant call to conversion, fidelity, and loving trust in God through the maternal guidance of Mary.

Perhaps the best way to understand the Brown Scapular is through the wisdom of the great Carmelite saint, St. John of the Cross: "Strive to preserve your heart in peace; let no event of this world disturb it; reflect that all must come to an end."

For the entire Carmelite family, the Brown Scapular remains a precious sacramental that accompanies us in our daily struggles and pilgrimage of faith. It is a visible expression of our trusting prayer, joyful praise, and sincere desire to imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary.

More than a piece of cloth, it is a sign of belonging—a reminder that our Mother continually guides, protects, and leads us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Our Lady, Queen and Beauty of Carmel, protect and keep us always under the mantle of your protection.
