ππππ¦π§ πππ¬ | ST. ROSE OF LIMA
How far would you go to live a life of faith, even when faced with opposition from your own family?
Today, August 23, as we celebrate the feast of St. Rose of Lima, we honor a woman who lived that very struggle, choosing God above all else and becoming a symbol of courage and compassion.
St. Rose was canonized on April 12, 1671. Born into a noble family in Peru, she was drawn early to a spiritual life and penitential practices. Her family wanted her to marry, but she resisted. To discourage suitors, she cut her hair and even scarred her skin with peppers, showing her determination to follow her chosen path.
Since her parents forbade her from entering the convent, she joined the Third Dominican Order while living at home. Inspired by St. Catherine of Siena, she made a perpetual vow of virginity and served for 11 years with deep devotion. She cared for the sick, helped the poor, and practiced strict penance, becoming a model of resilience and charity.
Her life continues to inspire Catholics to live with devotion, compassion, and courage.
May St. Rose of Lima guide and help us to live a life of deep devotion and compassion.
Pray for us that we may devote our lives to God wholeheartedly.
