"Matthew 14:13–21 is not only a story about Jesus feeding thousands of people. It is also a story about how we respond when what is in front of us seems bigger than what is in our hands.

The disciples saw a crowd and thought,

“Send them away.”

Jesus saw the same crowd and had compassion.

The disciples saw five loaves and two fish and thought,

“Only this.”

Jesus said,

“Bring them here to Me.”

And perhaps that is what Jesus is asking us to do today.

When we face something difficult, we do not always have to begin with, “Lord, please make this disappear.”

Maybe we can begin with:

“Lord, here is my problem. Here is what I have. Here is what I don’t have. What do You want me to do?”

There will be situations we cannot solve on our own. There will be moments when we feel unprepared or when we have very little to offer.

And that is okay.

We do not have to be flawless. We do not have to be enough on our own.

We only need to be willing to bring what we have to Jesus and trust Him with what we cannot do.

The five loaves and two fish were never enough by themselves. But in Jesus’ hands, they became more than enough.

So when life gives us something bigger than ourselves, may we not immediately run away from it or ask God only to take it away.

May we learn to say:

“Lord, this is bigger than me. But I bring it to You. Show me what I should do, help me with what I can do, and I will trust You with what I cannot.”

Because sometimes, the problem does not become smaller.

Sometimes, we simply realize that our God is bigger than the problem."

𝑨 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒚 𝑴𝒔. 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝑪. 𝑬𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒖.
𝑺𝑲𝑬𝑷-𝑺𝑰𝑳𝑬𝑪 𝑪𝑯𝑨𝑷𝑻𝑬𝑹

Have you ever looked at a situation and thought, "If I were God, I would've fixed this already?"

Maybe it's a broken family.
A toxic workplace.
A friendship that ended.
A prayer that has remained unanswered for years.

I have.

We often believe that the fastest solution is the best one. If something is hurting us, we want it removed immediately.

Think about it.

We delete people from our lives.
We quit when things get hard.
We expect instant answers.
We want justice now.
We want healing now.
We want success now.
We want God to explain Himself now.

The servants in this Sunday's Gospel thought the same way.

One question stayed with me after reading Matthew 13:24–30, 36–43:

Do I really trust God's timing, or do I only trust Him when His plans match mine?

When the servants saw the w**ds growing among the wheat, their first response was, "Let's pull them out." Honestly, I probably would've said the same thing. If something doesn't belong, why not remove it immediately?

But the master's answer was simply, "No."

That one word made me stop and think.

The master wasn't unaware of the w**ds. He saw what the servants could not see. While they were focused on removing the w**ds, the master was also protecting the wheat.

It made me realize that maybe this is how I sometimes treat God.

When I experience pain, unanswered prayers, or difficult people, I immediately ask Him to remove them. When nothing changes, I become impatient. I begin to wonder if He's listening, if He's doing something, or if He has forgotten me.

But maybe God isn't silent because He doesn't care.

Maybe He's waiting because He sees what I cannot.

There are still many w**ds growing within me such as fear, doubt, resentment, impatience, and the desire to control things that only God can control. Yet despite all of these, God continues to grow the wheat in me. Through every season, He patiently teaches me faith, humility, forgiveness, and love.

We call it delay. God calls us to trust.

We call it silence. God reminds us that He is still at work.

This Gospel reminded me that trusting God isn't only believing that He can answer my prayers. Sometimes, trusting Him means believing that even when I don't understand His ways, I can still trust His heart.

So perhaps the real question of this Gospel isn't, "Am I the wheat or the w**d?"

Maybe the better question is:

𝑨𝒎 𝑰 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝑯𝒊𝒎, 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝑯𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒏'𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒚𝒆𝒕?

Maybe faith is trusting that God is still at work, even when we cannot yet see what He is doing.

After all... the wheat was still growing, even while the w**ds remained.

As we begin another week, perhaps the question isn't whether there are w**ds in our lives.

The question is: Will we trust the Sower enough to keep growing while we wait?

𝑨 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒚 𝑺𝒊𝒔. 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝑬𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒖
𝑺𝑲𝑬𝑷 - 𝑺𝑰𝑳𝑬𝑪 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒓

These past few days have been filled with rain, day and night, because of Typhoon Inday. Many people see typhoons only as disasters, bringing floods, damaged homes, and interrupted work. And indeed, they can bring great suffering. But for many farmers here in Zambales, this rain is also a blessing in disguise. The past months have been marked by a long dry season. The land was cracked, rivers became shallow, and many farmers could do little because the soil was too dry to receive the seed. Little to no crops were sown because they knew that without rain, the seed would never grow.

Now, as the rains continue, the fields have come alive again. Farmers are out in their rice paddies, planting seedlings with hope. They know that while they cannot control the weather, they must be ready when the conditions are right. They prepare the soil, plant faithfully, and entrust the harvest to God.

This image beautifully connects with this Sunday's Gospel, Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23.

Jesus tells us the Parable of the Sower. The sower generously scatters seed everywhere. Some fall on the path, some on rocky ground, some among thorns, and some on good soil. The difference is not in the seed, the seed is always good because it is the Word of God. The difference lies in the condition of the soil.

Like the fields of Zambales after months of drought, our hearts can also experience dry seasons. There are times when we become spiritually dry because of worries, disappointments, busyness, sin, or simply neglecting our relationship with God. During those times, even when God's Word is proclaimed every Sunday, it struggles to take root because our hearts have become hard, distracted, or weary.

But just as the rain softens the earth, God's grace softens our hearts. Sometimes God allows moments in our lives, even difficult ones, to prepare us to receive His Word more deeply. The rain that farmers welcome reminds us that God continues to water our souls with His mercy, inviting us to become fertile ground once again.

Notice that the sower never stops sowing. He does not choose only the good soil. He scatters seed generously, trusting that some will bear fruit. This tells us something about God. He never gives up on us. Even when we fail Him, even when our hearts become like rocky ground or filled with thorns, He continues to speak, continues to love, and continues to offer us another chance.

The question, then, is not whether God is still sowing His Word. He is. The real question is: What kind of soil am I today?

Am I like the path, where God's Word never enters because my heart has become closed? Am I like the rocky ground, enthusiastic at first but quick to give up when faith becomes difficult? Am I like the thorny soil, allowing worries, wealth, and worldly concerns to choke God's voice? Or am I willing to let God cultivate my heart so that His Word may bear fruit?

As we see our farmers working patiently in the fields after the rain, may we remember that a fruitful harvest never happens by accident. It requires preparation, patience, perseverance, and trust in God. In the same way, a fruitful Christian life begins with a heart that is open to receive God's Word.

May we pray that the Lord, who sends rain upon the earth and grace upon our hearts, will make us good soil, and our hearts a fertile ground. Ready to receive His Word, grow in faith, and bear abundant fruit for His Kingdom.

Bilang pakikiisa sa misyon ng Simbahan para sa pangangalaga ng sangnilikha, nagsagawa ang Samahan ng Kabataang Episcopal sa Pilipinas (SKEP) ng San Isidro Labrador Episcopal Church ng isang Eco-Justice Bible Study Retreat na nakatuon sa 𝐢𝐤𝐚-𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, ang “𝒑𝒂𝒈𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒑 𝒏𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒅 𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒉𝒂 𝒂𝒕 𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒉𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒉𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒖𝒉𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒈𝒅𝒊𝒈.”

Ang nasabing retreat ay isinagawa at pinangunahan ni 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐫. 𝐋. 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐬, na nagbigay ng mga pag-aaral at pagninilay hinggil sa pananagutan ng tao bilang katiwala ng nilikha ng Diyos. Tinalakay sa Bible Study ang ugnayan ng pananampalataya at pangangalaga sa kalikasan, gayundin ang epekto ng kapabayaan ng tao sa kapaligiran at sa buhay ng kapwa.

Sa pamamagitan ng mga talakayan, pagbabahaginan, at pagninilay sa Banal na Kasulatan, hinikayat ang mga kabataan na makita na 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢 𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐤𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢 𝐛𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐢 𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧.

Matapos ang retreat, isinabuhay agad ng mga kabataan ang kanilang mga natutunan sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng isang 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧-𝐔𝐩 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 sa paligid ng komunidad. Sama-samang naglinis ang mga miyembro ng SKEP bilang 𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐤𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐡𝐚 𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐲𝐨𝐬.

Ayon kay Brother Jonathan Jr. L. Tanas, hindi hiwalay ang pananampalataya sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan sapagkat ang sangnilikha ay kaloob ng Diyos na ipinagkatiwala sa tao. Binigyang-diin niya na ang pagiging Kristiyano ay hindi lamang nasusukat sa pagsamba at panalangin kundi maging sa paraan ng pagtrato natin sa mundo at sa kapwa. Aniya, kapag nasisira ang kalikasan, ang mga mahihirap at mahihinang sektor din ang unang naaapektuhan, kaya 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐩𝐰𝐚.

Ginamit din sa pag-aaral ang 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝟐:𝟏𝟓 na nagsasabing: “𝑰𝒏𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒊𝒚𝒐𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒂𝒐 𝒔𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝒖𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕𝒐’𝒚 𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒕 𝒑𝒂𝒈𝒚𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏.” Mula sa talatang ito, pinaalalahanan ang mga kabataan na ang tao ay hindi may-ari ng daigdig kundi katiwala lamang ng Diyos. Dahil dito, tinawag ang bawat isa na maging responsable at mapagmalasakit sa kalikasan sa pamamagitan ng mga simpleng gawaing maaaring magsimula sa sariling tahanan at komunidad.

Sa pagtatapos ng retreat, naging malinaw sa mga kalahok na ang eco-justice ay hindi lamang teorya kundi isang pananampalatayang isinasabuhay sa araw-araw sa pamamagitan ng konkretong pagkilos para sa ikabubuti ng sangnilikha at ng kapwa.

Mayo 13, 2026—nagtipon ang mga pari at mga kinatawang layko ng Zambales–Pangasinan Deanery sa San Isidro Labrador Episcopal Church, Lawin,Sam Marcelino, Zambales upang isagawa ang Deanery-wide “𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭” bilang bahagi ng patuloy na paghahanda at pagsusuri sa paglalakbay ng deanery tungo sa katuparan ng 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟖 ng 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬.

Layunin ng nasabing pagtitipon na suriin kung nasaan na ang deanery sa pagtupad ng Vision, Mission, at Goals ng ECP, lalo na ang panawagan na magkaroon ng mga “𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬” pagsapit ng taong 2028.

Sa isinagawang assessment, tinalakay ng mga kalahok ang 𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐤𝐮𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐛𝐚’𝐭 𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨 𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐨, 𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐡𝐮𝐡𝐮𝐛𝐨𝐠 𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐠𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐚. Nagbahagi rin ang mga kinatawan ng iba’t ibang simbahan ng kanilang mga karanasan, tagumpay, at mga hamon sa kani-kanilang mga lugar ng ministeryo.

Binigyang-diin ng mga pinuno ng deanery at ng Core Group ng VMG Assessment na ang assessment ay hindi lamang simpleng pagsusuri ng mga nagawa kundi isang pagkakataon din upang muling 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐭𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐚-𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐭𝐮𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐧. Sa pamamagitan ng mga talakayan at pagpaplano, natukoy ang mga larangang patuloy na lumalago at ang mga aspetong nangangailangan pa ng higit na pagtutok at suporta.

Ipinakita rin ng gawain ang kahalagahan ng pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan ng mga parokya at missions sa loob ng deanery. Nagpahayag ang mga kalahok ng kanilang hangarin na higit pang mapalakas ang mga ministeryong tumutugon sa espiritwal na pangangailangan ng mga kongregasyon sa Zambales at Pangasinan.

Sa pagtatapos ng gawain, nagkaisa ang mga dumalo sa panalangin at panibagong paninindigan na patuloy na makibahagi sa misyon ng Diyos habang sama-samang tinatahak ng deanery ang landas tungo sa Vision 2028.

Lubos na pasasalamat sa Panginoon sa matagumpay na pagdaraos ng 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 na may temang: “𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐲: 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞” na ginanap noong Mayo 4–8, 2026 sa San Isidro Labrador Episcopal Church.

Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga bata na buong saya at pananampalatayang nakibahagi sa ating VCS. Nawa’y manatili sa inyong mga puso ang mga aral tungkol sa katarungan, kapayapaan, at pag-ibig ng Diyos.

Taos-puso rin kaming nagpapasalamat sa mga magulang at guardians sa inyong suporta, pagtitiwala, at paghimok sa inyong mga anak na lumapit at makilala ang Panginoon.

At higit sa lahat, maraming salamat sa lahat ng donors, sponsors, teachers, volunteers, at sa mga taong naging bahagi ng gawaing ito. Ang inyong kabutihan at pagtulong ay naging malaking biyaya upang maging matagumpay ang programang ito.

Patuloy nating akayin ang kabataan sa paglakad sa daan ng Diyos, daan ng katarungan, kapayapaan, at pag-ibig.

Sinabi ng Diyos, “Magkaroon ng lahat ng uri ng hayop sa lupa, maaamo, maiilap, malalaki at maliliit.” At gayon nga ang nangyari. Ginawa nga niya ang lahat ng ito, at nasiyahan siya nang ito'y kanyang mamasdan. Inilagay ng Panginoong Yahweh ang tao sa halamanan ng Eden upang ito'y pagyamanin at pangalagaan.

Manalangin tayo,

Panginoong Diyos, na nagmamay-ari ng lahat ng nilikha, at tumatawag sa amin upang maglingkod sa Inyo sa pamamagitan ng pag-aalaga sa mga kaloob na nakapaligid sa amin, bigyan kami ng inspirasyon sa pamamagitan ng halimbawa ni San Isidro na ibahagi ang aming pagkain sa mga nagugutom at magtrabaho para sa kaligtasan ng lahat ng tao. Sa pamamagitan ng aming Panginoong Hesukristo, Inyong Anak, na nabubuhay at naghahari kasama mo, sa pagkakaisa ng Espiritu Santo, Diyos, magpakailanman.
