Blessed Sunday to all of us! Before we end our day, here is our Bible verse to start our week, from the Book of Ephesians 1:7 it says, “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins.”
Ephesians 1:7 says that in Christ we have redemption through His blood. The phrase “in Him” tells us that all of our blessings, freedom, and identity are found only in Jesus, not in our good works or religion. The word “redemption” means to buy back, like paying to set a slave free. That means we were once slaves to sin and guilt, but Jesus paid for us with His own blood on the cross. Blood represents life, so God gave the life of His Son to rescue us. This shows both how serious sin is and how valuable we are to God. The result of this redemption is the “forgiveness of sins.” When God forgives, He doesn’t keep a record. He removes our sins completely, as far as the east is from the west. Lastly, all of this happened “in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” This means it was not because we deserved it. Grace is God’s undeserved favor, and it is rich, overflowing, and never runs out. No matter how big our sin is, His grace is always bigger.
This verse changes how we live every day. When we fail, guilt will tell us to hide from God, but this verse tells us to run to Him instead. Forgiveness is already ours in Christ, so we should confess quickly, receive it, and get back up. We don’t need to punish ourselves because Jesus already paid the full price. Our value is not in our grades, followers, money, or the approval of people. Our value is in the blood of Jesus. If God thought we were worth dying for, then we are not worthless. We should stop living like slaves and start walking like people who have been set free.
In our relationships, this verse calls us to forgive others the same way God forgave us. The riches of God’s grace that we received should overflow to the people around us, even when it’s hard.
