𝐒𝐀𝐁𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐇 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟒: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬

𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭: “𝑆𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑜ℎ 𝑤𝑎𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑; 𝑛𝑒𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑤𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐼𝑠𝑟𝑎𝑒𝑙 𝑔𝑜, 𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑜𝑟𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑑 𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑛 𝑏𝑦 𝑀𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑠” (𝗘𝘅𝗼𝗱𝘂𝘀 𝟵:𝟯𝟱, 𝗡𝗞𝗝𝗩).

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: This week lesson focus on Moses' exреrience with Pharaoh, king of Egypt. God gave Moses his orders. Then Moses went to Pharaoh with God's famous words, "𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐦𝐢," which means "𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐨!"
Pharaoh doesn't want to let God's people go. The Bible doesn't explain why Pharaoh refused. Yes, the Egyptians believed the Hebrews could join their enemies in a war, fight against them, and escape Egypt (Exodus 1:10). At the same time, the Hebrews were the slaves of the Egyptians. As slaves, the Hebrews worked for free. Pharaoh didn't want to lose his slaves. So, God needed to get Pharaoh's attention first before He could get Pharaoh to change his mind about letting His people go free.

𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐯𝐬. 𝐠𝐨𝐝𝐬
➠ The coming fights were going to be between the living God and the Egyptian "gods." What made things worse was that Pharaoh believed he was one of those gods. The Lord didn't just fight against the Egyptians, or even Egypt itself. The Lord fought against their gods. The Egyptians honored more than 1,500 male and female gods. The Bible tells us very clearly: "'I will punish all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord'"(Exodus 12:12).

➠ We can see an example of how God punished their gods in the story of the stick that turned into a snake (Exodus 7:9-12).

➠ In Egypt, a cobra was a symbol of 𝐖𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐞𝐭, a 𝐟𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐝. A cobra is a snake whose bite can kill a person. 𝐖𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐞𝐭 controlled southern or Lower Egypt. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒚𝒎𝒃𝒐𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒃𝒓𝒂 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒐𝒉'𝒔 𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒏. The cobra was a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐡'𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐝. That's because the Egyptians believed that Wadjet would spit poison at Pharaoh's enemies. The Egyptians also believed that the snake was holy. So, the snake would lead Pharaoh to the place where Egyptian kings went after they died.

➠ Aaron's stick became a snake and ate all the other snakes in front of Pharaoh. In this way, 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜. God beat the symbol of Pharaoh's might. Not only that, Aaron and Moses held the snake in their hands (Exodus 7:12, 15). This first fight showed 𝐆𝐨𝐝'𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭. Moses had more power and control than did the "god" Pharaoh himself.

➠ The ancient Egyptians also believed that another snake god, 𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐛𝐤𝐚𝐮, was holy. So, the Egyptians worshiped him. 𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐛𝐤𝐚𝐮s name means "𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐬." The Egyptians believed 𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐛𝐤𝐚𝐮 was very powerful because he swallowed seven cobras. So, when Aaron's stick became a snake and swallowed all the other snakes, 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐝, 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫. After this powerful meeting, the Egyptians understood this message right away and very clearly.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐡’𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭?
➠ In the book of Exodus, it is said 𝟗 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐡'𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 (Ex. 4:21; 7:3; 9:12; 10:1; 10:20; 10:27; 11:10; 14:4; 14:8), and another 𝟗 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. (Ex. 7:13; 7:14; 7:22; 8:15; 8:19; 8:32; 9:7; 9:34; 9:35). 𝑺𝒐, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈'𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅: 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒐𝒓 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒐𝒉 𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇?

➠ To answer this question, let's look at the story about God's ten punishments against Egypt. We read that in each of the 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑝𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠, 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑜ℎ 𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑜𝑤𝑛 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑. So, 𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦. Then, starting with the 6𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐵𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑚𝑎𝑑𝑒 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑜ℎ'𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑 (Exodus 9:12). What this information tells us is that 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐡'𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡.

➠ In other words, God sent punishments to help Pharaoh stop sinning and to turn from the evil in his heart. God didn't put fresh evil in Pharaoh's heart. God allowed Pharaoh to do the evil that was in his heart already (read Romans 1:24-32).

➠ So, God didn't remove Pharaoh's free choice. Pharaoh was free to decide to serve God or fight against Him. Pharaoh chose to fight against God.

➠ The lessons from this story are plain. God gives us free choice. We can choose between right and wrong, good and evil, to obey or not to obey. Lucifer in heaven, Adam and Eve in Eden, Pharaoh in Egypt, and us today: God gives us all a choice. Wherever we live, we choose between life or death (Deuteronomy 30:19).

𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬
➠ 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆: 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝: 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐢 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐥𝐞 (Exodus 7:17-25). Life in Egypt depended on water from the Nile. Where there was water, there was life. Because water made life possible, the Egyptians invented Hapi and worshiped this god as the giver of life.

➠ Of course, only the living God is the Giver of all life, including water and food (Genesis 1:1, 2, 20-22; Psalm 104:27, 28; Psalm 136:25; John 11:25; John 14:6). Changing water into blood is a symbol of changing life into death. Hapi couldn't give life or protect it. Only God can.

➠ 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 : 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐬. 𝐇𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐭, 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐬. God gives Pharaoh another chance. This time, God fights against and punishes the female frog god, 𝐇𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐭 (Exodus 8:1-15). Then the Nile gives frogs, not life. The Egyptians fear and hate the frogs. The Egyptians want to get rid of them. The exact time when this punishment ends shows that God's power was the cause of the frogs.

➠ 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒓𝒅 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 : 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞. 𝐆𝐞𝐛, 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡. The type of insect meant here ("𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐦" in the Hebrew language) is not clear. (Maybe they are gnats, mosquitoes, ticks, or lice).

➠ The punishment was against the god Geb. Geb was the Egyptian god the earth. Out of the dust, God brings insects. (The word "𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭" helps us remember that 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡.) The 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝. The Egyptian magicians can't do this miracle (that's because only God can make life). So, the magicians announce, " '𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐝' " (Exodus 8:19, NLV). That is, God's power was the cause of the insects. But Pharaoh refused to change his heart.

𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬
➠ 𝑭𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 : 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐔𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭, 𝐠𝐨𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬.
— 𝐔𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑠.
— 𝐊𝐡𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐢 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝒔𝒖𝒏, 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒏 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈.

➠ The Lord defeated both of these "gods." In the story in Exodus 8:20–9:12, God protected the Hebrews while the Egyptians suffered. From this time forward, none of God's punishments bother the Hebrews anymore.

➠ 𝑭𝒊𝒇𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 : 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤. 𝐊𝐡𝐧𝐮𝐦, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐝.
— 𝐇𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. 𝐻𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑟 ℎ𝑎𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑤.
— 𝐀𝐩𝐢𝐬 𝑏𝑢𝑙𝑙 𝑔𝑜𝑑, 𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑜 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑝𝑜𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑖𝑛 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡. 𝑆𝑜, 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 5𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑔𝑜𝑑𝑠 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑐𝑘 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑑.

➠ 𝑺𝒊𝒙𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 : 𝐔𝐥𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬. 𝐈𝐦𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐩 , 𝐠𝐨𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.
— 𝐈𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒, 𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑐 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑑𝑜𝑚.
— 𝐒𝐞𝐤𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑎𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒.
— 𝐈𝐦𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔.

➠ Sekhmet and Imhotep can't protect the people who worship them. Now the magicians are so sick that they can't appear in Pharaoh's palace. The magicians are helpless to stop the God who made the skies and the earth.

➠ Not even the magicians could heal themselves (Exod. 9:11). Pharaoh had no doubt about the source of the plagues. But he had decided to refuse to bow down to God, and God allowed him to reap the fruit of his rebellion (Exod. 9:12).

𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐥, 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬
➠ 𝑺𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 : 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐥. 𝐍𝐮𝐭, 𝐠𝐨𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐲; 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐡, 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬.
— 𝐍𝐮𝐭 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑒𝑠. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑛 𝑝𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑑 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑑 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑘𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ.
— 𝐎𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑒𝑠.

➠ In the Bible, 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐆𝐨𝐝 (Isaiah 28:2, 17; Ezekiel 13:11-13). During this punishment, the Egyptians who hide their property in a safe shelter will be protected (Exodus 9:20, 21). Everyone is now given a test: will they, or will they not, believe God's Word and obey the warning?

➠ 𝑬𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆: 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐬. 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫, 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧.
— 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑠, 𝑤𝑎𝑟, 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒.
— 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔.
— 𝐒𝐡𝐮 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑖𝑟.
— 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐬 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑒𝑠, ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒.

➠ None of the Egyptian gods can stop God's punishments (Exodus 10:4–20) because statues have no power (Isaiah 44:9, 10, 12–17).

➠ 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆: 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐑𝐚, 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐧.
— 𝐑𝐚 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑢𝑛 𝑔𝑜𝑑.
— 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑚𝑜𝑜𝑛 𝑔𝑜𝑑. 𝐵𝑢𝑡 𝑅𝑎 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑇ℎ𝑜𝑡ℎ 𝑐𝑎𝑛'𝑡 𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡.

➠ Pharaoh again tries to make a deal with Moses. But Moses refuses to accept this bargain. Then darkness falls on Egypt for three days. But there was light where the Israelites lived. The separation between the Israelites and the Hebrews is powerful.

➠ Pharaoh refused to feel sorry about his sins. The Lord gave Pharaoh very powerful proof that He was God. Pharaoh's own servants asked him, “'How long will this man [Moses] make trouble for us? Let the Israelite men go to worship the Lord their God. Don't you know that Egypt is ruined?'" (Exodus 10:7, ICB). But Pharaoh refused to obey God and let His people go.

𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
“Before the infliction of each plague, Moses was to describe its nature and effects, that the king might save himself from it if he chose. Every punishment rejected would be followed by one more severe, until his proud heart would be humbled, and he would acknowledge the Maker of heaven and earth as the true and living God. The Lord would give the Egyptians an opportunity to see how vain was the wisdom of their mighty men, how feeble the power of their gods, when opposed to the commands of Jehovah. He would punish the people of Egypt for their idolatry and silence their boasting of the blessings received from their senseless deities. God would glorify His own name, that other nations might hear of His power and tremble at His mighty acts, and that His people might be led to turn from their idolatry and render Him pure worship.”

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟏𝟐: 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: This week, we will look at two more Bible stories that.show us what will happen at the end of earth’s history.
First, we will look at the story about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. This story will help us better understand what Revelation 13 says about the end times. Then we will look at the experience of the early Christians in the New Testament. Their experience also can help us understand what to expect between now and the Second Coming.
Both experiences show us people who were filled with a lot of courage. These experiences will help us know how to be at peace during the hard times ahead.
Again, Jesus told His followers not to be afraid or to let their thoughts upset them. We must remember that the Bible’s special messages about the future are all about Jesus. That’s why we will see that these special messages are filled with the same advice Jesus gave His followers while He lived on earth. In other words, end-time happenings will be hard for God’s loyal people. But we should think about these future happenings with hope, not fear.

𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝟐 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐲
➠ One of the most powerful end-time messages in the whole Bible is Daniel 2. Daniel wrote his book more than 500 years before Jesus was born. In Daniel 2, Daniel tells us about the future history of this earth. Daniel starts with his time and the kingdom of Babylon, then talks about the future kingdoms of Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome. These kingdoms will control the earth after Babylon. Finally, Daniel talks about the break-up of Rome into the countries of modern Europe that we see today.

➠ Daniel says this about these European countries: “𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑠𝑎𝑤 𝑖𝑟𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑥𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑑𝑜𝑚 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑡𝑟𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 [𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ] 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 . ➠ This end-time message happened exactly as Daniel said it would. Leaders from the different countries of Europe married the daughters of leaders from nearby countries. With these marriages, these leaders tried to join their countries together. But their people continue to be divided.
— 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 (𝑟𝑒𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑒𝑑 1837–1901) 𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 “𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑚𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑢𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒” 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑟𝑦𝑖𝑛𝑔 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 26 𝑜𝑓 ℎ𝑒𝑟 42 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛 𝑡𝑜 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑢𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑟𝑜𝑦𝑎𝑙𝑡𝑦 𝑜𝑟 𝑛𝑜𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦.

➠ In other words, the end-time messages show us history from ancient times to our time. This explanation for end-time messages in the Bible is named the 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞. Seventh day Adventists use the 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 to understand end-time happenings in the Bible. The 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 is very important for helping us have a correct understanding of the end times in the Bible. We must use the 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 when we study the book of Revelation. Then we will correctly understand its end-time messages.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞
➠ After Daniel explained King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the king was loyal to Daniel’s God for a time (read Daniel 2; pay special attention to verses 46–48). But the king’s loyalty didn’t continue for long.

➠ 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝐷𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑒𝑙 3:1–12. 𝑊ℎ𝑦 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑒 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑔𝑜𝑙𝑑? 𝑊ℎ𝑦 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑒?

➠ The king 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒚 𝑮𝒐𝒅’𝒔 𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 (Daniel 2). 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑑 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑢𝑠𝑎𝑙 𝑡𝑜 𝑜𝑏𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑒 ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑡 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐷𝑢𝑟𝑎. The king made the whole statue gold. The king’s message? 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐝. Also, Nebuchadnezzar will always be king. The king announced he would kill anyone who dared to question his idea. The king’s command helps us understand that the wish to do things our way can blind us to God’s truth about how the worldwide war between good and evil will end.

➠ In some ways, King Nebuchadnezzar behaves the same as Lucifer. 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝑩𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝑮𝒐𝒅’𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕. In other ways, Nebuchadnezzar and Lucifer were very different from each other. After some time, Nebuchadnezzar felt sorry for his sins. He confessed his faults and announced his faith in God. We have good reasons to believe that we will see Nebuchadnezzar in the kingdom he fought so hard against.

➠ 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝐷𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑒𝑙 3:17, 18. 𝐼𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑒 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝐻𝑒𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑤 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑡ℎ𝑠 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔’𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑑. 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑡𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑢𝑠 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑡ℎ?

➠ But three faithful young men were not prepared to worship an image, thus breaking God's Law. They could have pretended not to, but that would have been tantamount to openly denying their beliefs.

➠ They accepted the consequences and chose to die (Dan. 3:15-18). However, God did not allow His faithful subjects to die in the fire. He Himself walked with them through the trial and delivered them (Dan. 3:23-27).

𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧
➠ The final moments of this world revolve around worship. Worshiping the Creator, or the creature. Being loyal to God, or to whatever else or anyone compels us to obey Him.

➠ 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠? 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 13:11–17; 𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 14:9, 11, 12; 𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 16:2; 𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 19:20; 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 20:4 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑤𝑒𝑟.

➠ God commands His people to worship Him because “𝐻𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑑𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑎, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 [𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ]” (Revelation 14:7, ERV). 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐇𝐢𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐝. The three Hebrew boys must make the same choice. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. What happened in Daniel 3 and what will happen in Revelation 13 may be different in some ways. But the command to worship a false god in both chapters, and not the God of heaven, is the same.

➠ 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑠 1:18–25. (𝐷𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑠 1:18 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 14:9, 10 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝐺𝑜𝑑’𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟?) 𝑊ℎ𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑟𝑦? 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡?

➠ Worship doesn’t only mean bowing down and offering a gift of sweet-smelling perfume (but it can include these things). We worship whatever we serve or give our loyalty to. Think about who God is and what He did for us in Jesus. God made us. He gave Jesus to die for our sins. These reasons are enough for us to worship Him. Anything else we worship is a false god.

𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
➠ The New Testament also helps us understand end time happenings. Life wasn’t easy for Christians in New Testament times. Many Jews hated Christians because they believed the Christians were a danger to the Jewish religion. The Kingdom of Rome also hurt Christians during this time.

➠ “𝑃𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐽𝑒𝑠𝑢𝑠. 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 ℎ𝑢𝑟𝑡 𝐽𝑒𝑠𝑢𝑠’ 𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 ℎ𝑢𝑟𝑡 𝐻𝑖𝑚. 𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝐽𝑒𝑠𝑢𝑠’ 𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑑𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝𝑒𝑑 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒. ➠ A story in the book of Acts (Acts 12:1–17) shows us in a powerful way what God’s people can expect in the end times (read Revelation 13).

➠ 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝐴𝑐𝑡𝑠 12:1–17. 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠?

➠ King Herod wanted to please the Jews and had the apostle James killed (Acts 12:1-2). Seeing that his plan was working, he arrested Peter to carry it out (Acts 12:3-4).

➠ Faced with this crisis, the church prayed without ceasing (Acts 12:5). The prayer was not answered immediately. Peter was saved just hours before his ex*****on (Acts 12:6). Interestingly, Peter wasn't worried; he was fast asleep.

➠ At the end of time, God will allow a few to die, like James, and the majority will be protected, like Peter. Angels will protect and sustain us. Jesus asks only one thing of us: “It does not matter whether I let you die or live until I come, only follow me to the end” (John 21:18-22).

𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭
➠ To distinguish between those who worship the image and those who do not, a mark is placed on them. This mark is identified with the name or number of the beast (Rev. 13:17 NIV).

➠ The book of Revelation tells us plainly what will happen: 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐝. The final test must be about something that shows our 𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐨𝐝. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒃𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒉, 𝒘𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒖𝒔. The Sabbath is as old as the Garden of Eden itself (read Genesis 2:1–3). So, we should not be surprised if the final test is about worship.

➠ 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑠: 𝑀𝑎𝑡𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑤 12:9–14 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐽𝑜ℎ𝑛 5:1–16. 𝑊ℎ𝑦 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐽𝑒𝑤𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝐽𝑒𝑠𝑢𝑠?

➠ In Matthew 12, Jesus heals a man with a dried up, crippled hand (Matthew 12:9–13). When Jesus heals the man on the Sabbath, what do the Jewish leaders do? They “made plans to kill Jesus” (Matthew 12:14, ERV). Did you see that? 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐡. In John 5:1–16, Jesus does another healing miracle on the seventh day. Then “the Jewish leaders made trouble for Jesus because he did this [miracle] on the Sabbath day” (John 5:16, WE). So, they tried “to kill Him” (verse 18,
NKJV).

➠ Death because of man-made laws against healing on the Sabbath? (Nothing in the Bible says healing on the Sabbath breaks God’s law. In the same way, nothing in the Bible teaches that Sunday replaced the Sabbath.) Of course, the problem about the Sabbath in these verses isn’t the same as in the end times. But these verses help us understand that the test in the end times will be a choice between manmade laws and God’s law. In both the story in John 5 and in Revelation 13, the test will be about the Sabbath.

“There can be only two classes. Each party is distinctly stamped, either with the seal of the living God, or with the mark of the beast or his image. Each son and daughter of Adam chooses either Christ or Barabbas as his general. And all who place themselves on the side of the disloyal are standing under Satan's black banner, and are charged with rejecting and despitefully using Christ. They are charged with deliberately crucifying the Lord of life and glory. Each one has an important question to answer for himself: Are you on the side of Satan, a transgressor of God's law, or are you loyal to that God."

Christian Behavior

We are called to be a godly people who think, feel, and act in harmony with biblical principles in all aspects of personal and social life. For the Spirit to recreate in us the character of our Lord we involved ourselves only in those things that will produce Christlike purity, health, and joy in our lives. This means that our amusement and entertainment should meet the highest standards of Christian taste and beauty. While recognizing cultural differences, our dress is to be simple, modest, and neat, befitting those whose true beauty does not consist of outward adornment but in the imperishable ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit. It also means that because our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, we are to care for them intelligently. Along with adequate exercise and rest, we are to adopt the most healthful diet possible and abstain from the unclean foods identified in the Scriptures. Since alcoholic beverages, to***co, and the irresponsible use of drugs and narcotics are harmful to our bodies, we are to abstain from them as well. Instead, we are to engage in whatever brings our thoughts and bodies into the discipline of Christ, who desires our wholesomeness, joy, and goodness.

21 - Stewardship

We are God’s stewards, entrusted by Him with time and opportunities, abilities and possessions, and the blessings of the earth and its resources. We are responsible to Him for their proper use. We acknowledge God’s ownership by faithful service to Him and our fellow human beings, and by returning tithe and giving offerings for the proclamation of His gospel and the support and growth of His church. Stewardship is a privilege given to us by God for nurture in love and the victory over selfishness and covetousness. Stewards rejoice in the blessings that come to others as a result of their faithfulness.
