In April, severe flooding left many residents of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo without food, shelter, clean water and basic healthcare needs.

In response, the General Board of Global Ministries and UMCOR have awarded grants to the Central Congo Episcopal Area to support the distribution of food and provide medication and hygiene items to vulnerable households and individuals.

Wise words from John Wesley:

"Do all the good you can,
by all the means you can,
in all the ways you can,
to all the people you can,
as long as ever you can."

What good can you do in the world today?

This month of August, we urge our local churches to observe Asuncion A. Perez Sunday in recognition of one of the long list of brave women who greatly influenced the field of social work in the Philippines.

Asuncion Arriola-Perez was born on August 15, 1895 in Gasan, Marinduque. The inspiration behind the name of our humble institution is a renowned social worker and a Methodist whose selfless devotion to serving others is worthy of emulation and respect. In 1941, she became the first woman to be appointed as the secretary of the Bureau of Public Welfare and also the first woman to hold a Cabinet rank in 1948. She founded Children's Garden of the Philippines, a faith-based orphanage, in 1954 and served as the fourth President of Wesleyan University - Philippines, Cabanatuan City from 1954 to 1957. Her contributions to Philippine Society are testimonies of living out one's faith in serving the least of our Filipino people.

In 1972, the United Methodist Church established Asuncion A. Perez Memorial Center, Inc. as its Social Service Arm and Rehabilitation Agency. This year marks our 52nd Founding Anniversary. 💚
