"CHOOSE YOUR PAIN"

πŸ—“οΈAugust 16, 2026

β€œNo discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” β€” Hebrews 12:11

Life will always involve pain. The question is: Will you choose the pain of discipline or the pain of regret?

πŸ“Œ 3 Pain Points to Remember:

1️⃣ CONSEQUENCE
Our choices have consequences. Saul, Esau, and David remind us that disobedience can cost us more than we realize.
* Saul (1 Samuel 13:13-14)
* Esau (Genesis 25:29-34)
* David (2 Samuel 11)

2️⃣ CAPTIVITY
> 1 Corinthians 10:23 β€” "I have the right to do anything," you say-but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"-but not everything is constructive.
> Galatians 5:13 β€” For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
> John 8:31-32 β€” Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
> Isaiah 59:2 β€” It's your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, He has turned away and will not listen anymore.

3️⃣ CHANCE
> Ephesians 5:15-17 β€” So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
> Proverbs 1:7 β€” Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
> Proverbs 3:11-12 β€” My child, don't reject the LORD's discipline, and don't be upset when He corrects you. For the LORD corrects those He loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.

πŸ’‘ Choose discipline today, so you don't have to carry the weight of regret tomorrow.

AUDIENCE OF ONE

β€œAm I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” β€” Galatians 1:10

Modern Christianity is often about performance.

Excitement is emotional.
Commitment is covenant.

The question is: Who am I trying to impress?

You cannot simultaneously chase God’s approval and everyone’s approval.

1. The Audience

Colossians 3:23–24 β€” Work for the Lord
John 8:29 β€” β€œFor I always do what pleases Him.”
Proverbs 29:25
Matthew 6:1

2. The Approval

John 12:43 β€” β€œThey loved human praise more than praise from God.”
Luke 9:23

At the center of OBEDIENCE is DIE.

DIE to your old self
DIE to pride
DIE to bitterness
DIE to the flesh
DIE to sin
DIE to temptation

No, obedience is not easy. But yes, it is worth it.

3. The Authentic Heart

1 Samuel 16:7 β€” β€œPeople look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
People see actions, but God sees intentions.
Hebrews 6:10

When you live for the Audience of One, you are free from the pressure of pleasing everyone else.

May we become a generationβ€”young and oldβ€”that chooses faithfulness over performance, obedience over applause, and authenticity over appearance.

πŸŽ’We often pack our lives with old habits, past achievements, or heavy burdens, thinking they define who we are. But trying to walk with God while carrying old weight will only exhaust you.

Last Sunday, we are diving into a powerful new message: Excess Baggage.

We will look at Philippians 3:7-8, where the Apostle Paul shows us what happens when we finally drop the weight. Paul realized that everything he lost was nothing compared to what he found in Christ:

✨ 1. A New Treasure
Earthly riches, status, and trophies fade. True value is found in the hidden kingdom of God.
πŸ“– β€œThe kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” – Matthew 13:44

✨ 2. A New Identity
You are no longer defined by your past mistakes or human labels. You are defined by Christ living in you.
πŸ“– β€œI have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” – Galatians 2:20

✨ 3. A New Pursuit
Stop looking back at what you left behind. It is time to press forward toward the heavenly prize waiting for you.
πŸ“– β€œI press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” – Philippians 3:12-14

It is time to drop the weight, unpack the heavy burdens and step into the new life God has for you. See you this weekend! πŸ™Œ

"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." β€” Luke 15:20

🀍No matter how long you’ve been away, how busy life got, or what your story looks like, God isn't waiting for you with a checklist of mistakes. He’s waiting with open arms. If you’ve been thinking about trying church again, this is your sign. You don’t have to have it all figured out to sit in the pews. Come as you are this Sunday!✨

THE POWER OF DESPERATE FAITH

Have you ever reached a point in your life where you felt completely desperate?

If your answer is yes, you're not alone. In Luke 8:41–56, we meet two people who desperately needed a miracle: Jairus and the woman who had been suffering from constant bleeding.

Jairus was a respected leader with influence and resources, yet none of those could save his dying daughter. The bleeding woman, on the other hand, had endured years of physical suffering, financial loss, social rejection, and spiritual isolation. Though their circumstances were different, they shared one thing in commonβ€”they had reached the end of themselves.

In their desperation, both chose to place their faith in Jesus. What seemed impossible to them was possible with God.

No matter how hopeless your situation may appear, you can trust God. His character never changes, and He does not show favoritism. When we put our faith in Him, we discover that He is not only the answer to our deepest needs but also the source of our true purpose and lasting hope.
