"An increasing body of medical research is uncovering something many people overlook. The condition of your mind can influence the strength of your body.
Typical risk factors for osteoporosis include a small body frame, smoking, alcohol consumption, and poor nutrition. However, researchers have identified another often unnoticed factor.
Depression.
A large research review published in the National Institutes of Health database found that individuals with depression consistently showed lower bone mineral density, especially in the spine and femur. In fact, 25 out of 33 studies examined demonstrated this inverse relationship.
Additional studies have reinforced this link, showing that depression is connected to reduced bone density and a higher risk of fractures, along with inflammatory and hormonal changes that can gradually weaken the body.
Simply put, a heavy spirit does not remain confined to the mind. It can begin to impact the body.
This understanding is not new.
Nearly 3,000 years ago, King Solomon wrote:
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Proverbs 17:22
Scripture does not speculate about reality. It speaks directly to it.
Joy is more than emotional comfort. It strengthens. A broken spirit does not remain hidden. It manifests in ways people do not always recognize.
And here is the truth: as believers, we can choose worship even within our circumstances. Hosanna in the highest is the One who saves, and aligning our thoughts with biblical truth can guard not only the mind but also the body."
