📖 Bible Study: I am Complete in Christ – My Identity is in Him
Main Verse: Colossians 2:10
"And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power."
📌 Theme
"I am Complete in Christ – My Identity is in Him"
Our true identity is not found in religious laws, rituals, or our own efforts, but in our union with Jesus Christ. As stated in Ephesians 3:2:
"If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward."
📖 Seven Truths of Our Completeness in Christ
1. CHOSEN
Reference: Ephesians 1:4
"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love."
Explanation:
We are chosen in Christ, not because of our works or good deeds, but by God’s grace and sovereign will.
Supporting Verses:
- Chosen before the world began – Genesis 1:4
"And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness."
- Called by grace – 2 Timothy 1:9
"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."
- Clothed in Christ – Romans 6:10
"For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God."
2. CONNECTED
Explanation: The believer is spiritually united with Christ – one life, one standing.
Supporting Verses:
- Joined to the Lord – 1 Corinthians 6:17
"But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit."
- Joined by the Spirit – Romans 8:10
"And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness."
- Joined Forever – Colossians 3:3
"For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God."
3. NEW CREATED
Reference: 2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Explanation:
Salvation produces a New Creation, not just a repaired or improved version of the old life. In Christ, we are made entirely new.
Supporting Verses:
- Crucified old man – Romans 6:6
"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."
- Created in Christ – Ephesians 2:10
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
- Changed positionally – Colossians 1:13
"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son."
4. CHERISHED
Reference: 1 Peter 2:9
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light."
(Doctrinal Principle)
Explanation:
The believer is precious to God because he or she is in Christ.
Supporting Verses:
- Purchased by blood – Ephesians 1:7
"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."
- Precious to God – Romans 8:32
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"
- Placed in favor – Ephesians 1:6
"To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved."
5. CHERISHED IN LOVE
Reference: Romans 8:38-39
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Explanation:
Nothing can separate us from God’s love. Our standing in Him is secure forever.
Supporting Verses:
- Loved completely – Romans 5:8
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
- Loved continually – Lamentations 3:22-23
"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
- Loved in Christ – Ephesians 2:4
"But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,"
6. CERTAINLY SECURE
Reference: John 10:28
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
Explanation:
Eternal life is eternal—not temporary, not conditional. We are kept safe in God’s hand forever.
Supporting Verses:
- Sealed by the Spirit – Ephesians 1:13
"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise."
- Saved by Grace – Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
- Safe Forever – Romans 8:1
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
7. COMMISSIONED
Reference: Acts 1:8
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
(Application Truth)
Explanation:
The believer is empowered not to earn salvation, but to secure it and serve God effectively.
Supporting Verses:
- Strengthened by the Spirit – Ephesians 3:16
"That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man."
- Sent as ambassador – 2 Corinthians 5:20
"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."
- Serving in Grace – Romans 12:6
"Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith."
💡 Final Key Takeaway
In Christ, we are already complete. We do not need to earn God’s favor through performance; instead, we rest in the fact that we were chosen, called, united, made new, cherished, kept secure, and empowered to serve. Our identity is fully and forever found in Jesus.
