ALL SAINTS' DAY | November 1, 2022

Praised be Jesus and Mary!

Today, we pay homage to the pious people who bravely led the way in their own faiths before us. Let's reflect about these outstanding defenders of the faith as we pay tribute to them and consider the part they still play in the life of the Church.

We celebrate the glory of all the saints, including those whose names and biographies we are familiar with as well as the many more holy people of God who live a holy and saintly life but are unknown to us. There are also all the other saints who have merited Heaven's glory but, for a variety of reasons, have not yet been identified and proclaimed saints. We celebrate All Saints' Day today by remembering all faithful who have lived and spent their lives serving and glorifying God.

We are also urged to take inspiration from them and adopt their way of life, which is characterized by wisdom, chastity, and submission to God's will.

Why is the birthday of our Lady so special, and what can we all learn from this special event?

In a single liturgical year in the Catholic Church, there are feasts for nearly every aspect of Mary's life; her Queenship, her Immaculate Heart, her Assumption, the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Immaculate Conception. And on 8 September, the Church once again commemorates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
But what makes the earthly birthday of the Blessed Virgin so special? In fact, there are only three persons whose birthdays are commemorated in the Catholic Church; St John the Baptist, Mother Mary, and Jesus Christ.
While there are many reasons to commemorate Mary's birthday, each stemming from Sacred Scripture and Tradition, there may perhaps be one simple, yet endearing significance which we will might find helpful.
