JEEPGYM CARAVAN CONFERENCE: DAPAT ISA LANG

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines – Negros Island Region (CEAP NIR) organized the JEEPGYM Caravan Conference on August 27, 2026 at the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod City, bringing together Catholic schools from across the Negros Island Region.

Representing the Diocesan Schools System of the Diocese of San Carlos, led by Rev. Fr. Richard B. Dumalag, Diocesan Schools Superintendent, were school administrators, selected Social Sciences faculty members, and student leaders, together with pastoral affairs officials led by Rev. Fr. Joferson P. Garces, the Pastoral Director of the Diocese.

The gathering was blessed by Most Rev. Gerardo A. Alminaza, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of San Carlos and President of Caritas Philippines, who joined the Catholic educational community in promoting Engaged Citizenship and a deeper commitment to the common good.

A significant advocacy highlighted during the conference was “DAPAT ISA LANG”—a call against political dynasties and the concentration of political power within a few families. It challenges citizens, particularly the youth, to uphold democratic participation, accountability, equal opportunity, and leadership that genuinely serves the people.

Through this advocacy, Catholic schools are called to form informed, discerning, courageous, and engaged citizens who will contribute to a more just and democratic society.

DAPAT ISA LANG.
A united call against political dynasties.
For democracy. For the common good. For genuine public service.

The Diocese of San Carlos, through the Diocesan Schools Commission, recognizes the challenges faced by our Catholic schools within the Diocesan Schools System. In the midst of these realities, we are called to remain faithful to our mission of providing an education that forms the whole person—mind, heart, and spirit.

As Catholic schools, we are reminded of the importance of making room for Jesus in every classroom and strengthening Christian formation as an essential dimension of our educational mission.

Making room for Jesus means placing Christ at the center of education. It goes beyond religious instruction, prayer, and visible expressions of faith. It means allowing the Gospel to guide our teaching, learning, leadership, relationships, and service.

Through Christian formation, our schools are called to help students know Christ, deepen their faith, live according to the Gospel, and grow in Christian values and virtues. It is a continuing process of forming persons who are capable of integrating faith with their daily lives and becoming responsible witnesses of the Gospel.

Our classrooms, therefore, should be communities where faith is nurtured, values are practiced, and students are encouraged to grow in their relationship with God and with others. Teachers, administrators, parents, and the entire school community share in this responsibility by becoming witnesses of faith and partners in formation.

In the midst of challenges, may our Catholic schools remain committed to faith, hope, compassion, and love, allowing these values to shape both our educational practice and our communal life.

Our mission goes beyond academic excellence. We are entrusted with forming young people who are competent in their fields, grounded in Christian values, spiritually mature, and committed to serving others.

May every classroom become a place where Jesus is welcomed, encountered, and shared—where Christian faith is strengthened, Gospel values are lived, and every learner is guided toward a deeper relationship with Christ.

When we make room for Jesus, we make room for hope.
May Christ remain at the heart of our schools and at the center of our mission of Christian formation.
