Why I chose to Serve.
As I work my beginning profession earlier this year, I couldn't help myself but to think about serving the Lord by bringing His gospel to His children. Although taking care of patients with compassion is a form of service to Him, I could feel that the same old desire to serve was still there. Not until I came across my Priest Journal in my Duty to God where on the very last page I wrote, "Serve a mission." I knew at that moment, it's time.
There were many things that I thought as hindrances for me to serve a mission, but then I realized that it was actually those things that prepared me to further work my desire. I did not understand at first but as I continued, I've learned that our minds couldn't fully comprehend the greater understanding and picture of what the Lord is doing in our lives.
The choice to pause a promising career was never easy, but having to choose to serve a mission showed me how courage and faith in the Lord can make us prioritize the Celestial things over what is temporal or secular. Although both paths are forms of healing and acts of service—one for the body and the other for the soul—it gives us wisdom to make decisions that some things are better than good, and ultimately choose what is best. Isn't beautiful how we offer to the Lord our desires to help others, just in a higher, more divine way? Right now here I am, and this call reminded me of who I am as His son, that I have a work and a duty that is far more valuable and important.
I chose to serve a mission not for my own, but to help others discover and realize the love of Heavenly Father who created all things, the redeeming grace of Christ who atoned for us sins, and the restored gospel that brings light and purpose in this latter days. Though I was trained to understand the physiologic and the medical means to sustain life, I saw how each weary souls tend to cling on the deeper power, that is the redeeming power of hope and healing from Christ. I knew that as a missionary, my purpose would reach beyond caring for the physical body—to invite others to come unto Christ through faith, knowing the Atonement, receiving the gifts of ordinances and the restoration to heal both the body and the soul.
Below is a lyrical I made, titled 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹, which showed how I chose to let God prevail in the context of mine infancy in working in the healthcare.
