“Jesus said, ‘You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.’ There it is—the fear of the Lord.”
This Sunday Service with John Bevere stresses the importance of having a deep respect and awe for the Lord. This reverence helps us gain wisdom, understand God's holiness and power, and strengthen our relationship with Him through obedience and honor.
In our faith journey, we often focus on God's love, grace, and mercy, but the fear of the Lord is equally important. This fear is profound reverence and awe for who He is, recognizing His holiness and power. Proverbs 9:10 tells us that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." This fear leads to a deeper relationship with God, built on respect for His divine nature.
Biblical encounters with God's glory, such as Isaiah's vision (Isaiah 6:5) and John's vision of the risen Christ (Revelation 1:17), highlight the profound humility and awe these men felt. The holiness of God inspires awe and worship. Living in the fear of the Lord means honoring Him in every aspect of our lives, obeying His commandments, and submitting to His will. Job exemplified this fear through his integrity and resilience despite suffering (Job 1:1, 13:15).
The fear of the Lord brings blessings. Psalm 25:14 says, "The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them." Jesus said, "You are my friends if you do what I command" (John 15:14). True friendship with God is rooted in obedience and reverence, leading to experiencing His love and wisdom.
SCRIPTURE
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." - Proverbs 9:10
REFLECTION
Take a moment to reflect on your own life. Do you approach God with a sense of awe and reverence? Do you honor Him in your decisions and actions? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where you may lack the fear of the Lord and to help you cultivate a deeper respect for His holiness.
“While a little faith may bring your soul to heaven, a lot of faith–clinging to God despite your circumstances–will bring heaven to your soul.”
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” -Proverbs 9:10
Heavenly Father, It is your wisdom I desire for it is the only knowledge worth having. Your wisdom shows me how to live day to day in this life with your blessings. As I study your word I understand how love works coupled with the power you have invested in me. I begin to understand the wisdom of your ways that are so much higher than my own. Through the power of your word I realize how childish I can act sometimes and I need your instruction in kingdom principles. When I honor you and draw near to you I hear your heartbeat and long to be with you. I will follow you wherever you lead. I am in this world but not of it. I am only passing through on my way to my eternal home with you in heaven. You are preparing me for that day when we will never be parted and I will know fully the beauty of your wisdom. I am humbled before you Lord, and feel so ignorant of your ways. Strengthen me to sit at your feet and be instructed by your Holy Spirit that I might learn what is holy and pleasing in your sight. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.
