Pentecost Sunday 🙏🏼

23/05/2026

Happy Birthday, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church!

Today we rejoice not simply in a tradition, but in a living mystery—the birth of the Church at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles like a rushing wind and tongues of fire. From that moment, fear was transformed into courage, confusion into mission, and silence into proclamation. The Church was no longer locked behind closed doors; it was sent forth into the world.

To call this the “birthday of the Church” is to recognize that the Church is not merely an institution, but a Spirit-filled body of believers united in Christ. The “One” Church speaks of unity amidst diversity—many nations, languages, and cultures, yet one faith and one baptism. The “Holy” Church is not holy because of human perfection, but because it is continually sanctified by God’s grace. The “Catholic” Church is universal, embracing all peoples and all corners of the world. The “Apostolic” Church stands firm on the foundation of the apostles, faithfully passing on the teaching and mission of Christ.

Pentecost reminds us that the Church is always being renewed. The same Spirit who empowered the first disciples continues to breathe life into every generation—calling the fearful to courage, the weary to hope, and the divided to communion. It is a reminder that faith is not meant to remain inside churches alone, but to be lived in families, communities, and the world.

So as we say, “Happy Birthday, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church,” we are also praying: Come, Holy Spirit, renew Your Church once more. Ignite our hearts with love, strengthen our faith, and send us forth as witnesses of Christ’s living presence in the world today.

'KUMUSTA KA?'

Cubao Bishop Elias L. Ayuban Jr., CMF has called for equal compassion for all victims of violence, urging the public not to forget those killed during the Philippines’ anti-drug campaign.

Ayuban's reflection came after the emotional remarks of Pia Cayetano during a Senate session on May 20, in which she expressed disappointment that members of the minority bloc allegedly failed to check on senators and employees following a recent shooting incident involving Senate personnel. "Walang ni isa sa inyong nangamusta sa amin!" Cayetano said during her privilege speech.

In a social media post titled "Kumusta ka?", Ayuban responded by asking whether the same concern shown to those affected by the Senate tragedy had also been extended to families who lost loved ones during the government's war on drugs. He specifically recalled Kian delos Santos and thousands of other victims whose deaths left families grieving and seeking justice.

The bishop questioned what he described as selective outrage, asking whether compassion and public attention are reserved only for those in positions of power while the suffering of ordinary Filipinos is overlooked. He also reflected on the plight of widows, parents and children left behind by drug war killings.

Throughout the post, Ayuban raised questions about conscience, accountability and the equal value of every human life. He argued that justice should not depend on social status and that the pain of marginalized families deserves the same recognition given to high-profile victims.

Ayuban concluded by calling for remembrance, healing and genuine accountability, saying that true compassion requires society to acknowledge all victims of violence, regardless of their background or circumstances.

✨ Mapalad at pinagpala ang ating Prayer Meeting ngayong gabi dahil sa muling pagsasama-sama ng bawat isa sa pananampalataya at paglilingkod. Lubos ang aming pasasalamat kina Bro. Enteng, Bro. CD, Bro. Jinnel, at Bro.
