Isa sa mga sinabi ni Bishop Crispin sa Homily niya during the Culminating Mass for the Flores de Mayo dito sa aming parokya, sabi niya, "Madaling busugin ang batang gutom sa pagkain pero mahirap busugin ang batang gutom sa pagkalinga at pagmamahal". Hindi naman po sa paging unfair sa ating mga tatay, pero we all know naman po na iba pa din talaga ang pagmamahal at pagkalinga ng isang ina dahil ika nga ulit ni Bishop Crispin, "magulo ang bahay/pamilya kung walang ina".

Itong mga salita ni Bishop ang malaking rason kung kaya't dapat ipagdiwang ang araw na ito (kahit patapos na 😂), because TODAY is THE DAY ng INA nga mga YOUTH ng ating Dyosesis 😁😍

Sa ating pinakamabait na Diocesan Youth Coordinator, SrSheila Mae Estremos, HAPPY BIRTHDAY po. Thank you for always reminding us not to doubt God's infinite love for us. Grasya ka po ha amon nga mga kabatan onan, Sister 💖. We thank God for your life and for touching the lives of the young people in our Diocese.

(Ps. Kadalasan po, we use Waray-Waray kung nagpopost po dito sa page namin, pero since ang taong sine celebrate natin ngayon ay feeling namin di pa masyado nakakaintindi ng waray waray, kaya para sure na maintindihan niya ang aming mensahe, nag tagalog nalang po kami na may kaunting English 😂)

🌸 Catechism Reflection: “When the Santacruzan Stops Pointing to Mary”

The Santacruzan was meant to be a beautiful Marian devotion.

Its purpose was simple:
🙏 to honor the Virgin Mary
🙏 to proclaim our faith publicly
🙏 and to lead people closer to Jesus through her

But sadly, in many Santacruzan celebrations today, something has changed.

The focus is no longer always on Mama Mary.

Instead:
👑 the Reynas become the main attraction
✨ the gowns become more important than the devotion
🌸 the andas become more extravagant than the Marian carroza
📸 and the attention shifts toward display, status, and spectacle

And this is spiritually dangerous.

Because the Santacruzan was never meant to glorify people.

The Reynas were supposed to represent:

virtues

faith

holiness

Christian witness

They were meant to point people toward Mary.

But when the Reynas begin to outshine the Blessed Mother herself, something becomes wrong in the spirit of the devotion.

How can the one being honored become secondary?

How can the image of Mama Mary become simpler than the very people meant to honor her?

When people leave remembering:

the gowns

the crowns

the lights

the luxury

…but forget:
🌸 Mama Mary
🌸 prayer
🌸 faith
🌸 and Jesus

then the true meaning of the Santacruzan has already been weakened.

This is not about removing beauty.

The Church has always loved beauty.

But beauty in Catholic tradition should lead people:
🙏 to reverence
🙏 to prayer
🙏 to God

—not to vanity, competition, or social prestige.

The Santacruzan becomes unhealthy when:
❌ it becomes a pageant instead of devotion
❌ when people compete instead of pray
❌ when appearances matter more than spirituality
❌ and when honoring Mary becomes secondary to being seen

We must remember:

The Reynas are not the center.
Mama Mary is.

And even Mary herself never pointed attention to herself.

She always pointed to Jesus.

So the true beauty of the Santacruzan is not found in extravagance.

It is found in:
🌸 humility
🌸 reverence
🌸 simplicity
🌸 faith
🌸 and hearts that sincerely honor God through Mary

Because no crown should ever shine brighter than the Mother we came to honor.
