MARCH 9 I MEMORIAL OF ST. FRANCES OF ROME
Secular Franciscan

Francesโ€™ life combines aspects of secular and religious life. A devoted and loving wife, she longed for a lifestyle of prayer and service, so she organized a group of women to minister to the needs of Romeโ€™s poor.

Born of wealthy parents, Frances found herself attracted to the religious life during her youth. But her parents objected and a young nobleman was selected to be her husband.

As she became acquainted with her new relatives, Frances soon discovered that the wife of her husbandโ€™s brother also wished to live a life of service and prayer. So the two, Frances and Vannozza, set out togetherโ€”with their husbandsโ€™ blessingsโ€”to help the poor.

Frances fell ill for a time, but this apparently only deepened her commitment to the suffering people she met. The years passed, and Frances gave birth to two sons and a daughter. With the new responsibilities of family life, the young mother turned her attention more to the needs of her own household.

The family flourished under Francesโ€™ care, but within a few years a great plague began to sweep across Italy. It struck Rome with devastating cruelty and left Francesโ€™ second son dead. In an effort to help alleviate some of the suffering, Frances used all her money and sold her possessions to buy whatever the sick might possibly need. When all the resources had been exhausted, Frances and Vannozza went door to door begging. Later, Francesโ€™ daughter died, and the saint opened a section of her house as a hospital.

Frances became more and more convinced that this way of life was so necessary for the world, and it was not long before she requested and was given permission to found a society of women bound by no vows. They simply offered themselves to God and to the service of the poor. Once the society was established, Frances chose not to live at the community residence, but rather at home with her husband. She did this for seven years, until her husband passed away, and then came to live the remainder of her life with the societyโ€”serving the poorest of the poor.

ST. FRANCES OF ROME, Pray for us.

SAINT OF THE DAY | FEB 14
ST. VALENTINE

Mga bok at ter, Happy Valentine's Day! As we celebrate the day of love and hearts today, February 14, let us know more about the person behind the celebration this day who gave up his life for his faith, Saint Valentine!

St. Valentine - whether priest or bishop - was martyred on February 14, now celebrated as Valentineโ€™s Day. According to most accounts, he was beaten and then beheaded, after a time of imprisonment. His skull is now kept in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Rome and is decorated with flower crowns on his feast day.

"He was either a Roman priest and physician who was martyred or he was the Bishop of Terni, Italy, who was also martyred in Rome, around 270 A.D. by Claudius the Goth,โ€ who was the Roman emperor at the time, said Fr. Brendan Lupton, an associate professor of Church history at Mundelein Seminary in Illinois.

Some Valentineโ€™s Day traditions can be correlated with St. Valentineโ€™s life, such as the exchanging of cards, Lupton said, or the celebration of romantic love. โ€œOne (account) was that he had befriended the jailer's daughter, where he was being imprisoned, and when he died, he left her a note inscribed with โ€˜From your Valentine,โ€™โ€ Lupton said. Other accounts say that exchanging cards on Valentineโ€™s Day recalls how St. Valentine would send notes to fellow Christians from prison.

Happy Fiesta! Brgy. Lusong๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŽ‰

The Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is celebrated on November 27th.

The feast commemorates the vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Laboure in 1830, in which Mary revealed the image of the Miraculous Medal. The medal is a sacramental of the Catholic Church and is considered to be as important as the rosary and brown scapular.

The medal is a symbol of Mary's union with Jesus' mission and is traditionally worn around the neck. It is a reminder of Mary's love and protection, and a sign of consecration to her. The medal also serves as a sign to others that the wearer is Catholic.

An Act of Consecration to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, we dedicate and consecrate ourselves to you under the title of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. May this Medal be for each one of us a sure sign of your affection for us and a constant reminder of our duties toward you. Ever while wearing it, may we be blessed by your loving protection and preserved in the grace of your Son. O most powerful Virgin, Mother of our Savior, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Obtain for us, your children, the grace of a happy death; so that, in union with you, we may enjoy the bliss of heaven forever. Amen.

Repeat 3 times:

Leader: O Mary, conceived without sin.

People: Pray for us who have recourse to you.

Today, September 8th, we commemorate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Did you know that the Church celebrates the birthday of only three persons - Jesus, St. John the Baptist, and Mary?

Mary, born to Saints Joachim and Anne, was born without original sin as, chosen to be the Mother of the Savior, she was fated to play a special role in our salvation.

Let us always ask our Mother to protect and watch over us and care for us just as she did for our Lord Jesus during His time here on earth. May she always intercede for us and bring our prayers to Him.

๐๐ซ๐š๐ฒ๐ž๐ซ

Your Nativity, O Virgin Mother of God, was the herald of joy to the whole world; since from you arose the Sun of Justice, Christ our God, who, destroying the curse, bestowed the blessing, and confounding death, rewarded us with life everlasting.

Let us pray.
Grant to us your servants, we beseech you, O Lord, the gift of Your heavenly grace, that as our salvation was begun in the child-bearing of the Blessed Virgin, so from this solemn festival of her Nativity may we obtain an increase of peace. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
