Main Scripture:
Psalm 50:15 โ โCall upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.โ
Trials, disasters, problems, and unexpected circumstances are part of life. But as believers, we do not face them alone. Jesus is our refuge, our strength, our hope, and our deliverer.
I. TRIALS WILL COME โ BUT JESUS IS WITH US
John 16:33
โIn the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.โ
Following Jesus does not mean we will never experience problems.
We may face sickness, financial difficulties, family problems, disasters, disappointment, and loss.
The presence of trials does not mean the absence of God.
When the storm comes, Jesus remains with us.
๐ The storm may shake us, but it cannot separate us from Christ.
II. WHEN WE ARE WEAK, JESUS IS OUR STRENGTH
Psalm 46:1
โGod is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.โ
When calamity comes:
We may become afraid.
We may not know what to do.
We may feel that our strength is gone.
But God says He is our strength.
We don't have to pretend that we are strong.
We simply need to run to Jesus.
๐ Our strength may fail, but God's strength never fails.
III. WHEN WE ARE AFRAID, JESUS IS OUR REFUGE
Psalm 91:1-2
โHe that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.โ
A refuge is a place where we are protected.
When fear comes:
Pray instead of panic.
Trust instead of doubt.
Worship instead of worry.
Seek God instead of running away from Him.
๐ Fear tells us to run away; faith tells us to run toward Jesus.
IV. WHEN WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, JESUS IS OUR GUIDE
Proverbs 3:5-6
โTrust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.โ
Sometimes calamity creates confusion.
We ask:
โLord, what should I do?โ
โWhere should I go?โ
โWhy is this happening?โ
We may not have all the answers, but we can trust the One who does.
๐ We may not understand the situation, but we can trust the Savior.
V. WHEN WE CRY OUT, JESUS HEARS US
Jeremiah 33:3
โCall unto me, and I will answer theeโฆโ
God invites us to call upon Him.
Not only when everything is good.
Not only when we have no other choice.
But in the day of trouble.
Psalm 50:15 gives us the pattern:
CALL โ DELIVER โ GLORIFY
Call upon God.
Trust Him for deliverance.
Give Him the glory.
VI. JESUS CAN CALM THE STORM
Mark 4:39
Jesus stood up and commanded the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm.
The disciples thought they were going to perish.
But Jesus was in the boat.
The important question is not:
โHow big is the storm?โ
The important question is:
โWho is in the boat with me?โ
๐ If Jesus is with us, the storm does not have the final word.
VII. OUR RESPONSE DURING CALAMITY
1. PRAY
Don't allow fear to silence your prayer.
2. TRUST
Believe that God is still in control.
3. STAY TOGETHER
As JRES brethren, encourage and support one another.
4. HELP OTHERS
Faith is demonstrated through love and action.
5. KEEP WORSHIPPING
Worship is declaring that God is greater than our circumstances.
6. DO NOT LOSE HOPE
Our circumstances may change, but Jesus remains the same.
VIII. OUR HOPE IS JESUS
Romans 8:38-39
Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus.
Therefore:
When there is a storm โ JESUS.
When there is fear โ JESUS.
When there is sickness โ
JESUS.
When there is loss โ JESUS.
When there is uncertainty โ
JESUS.
When there is calamity โ JESUS.
ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE US THE HOPE, STRENGTH, AND PEACE WE NEED.
CONCLUSION
We cannot control every storm that comes into our lives.
We cannot prevent every trial.
We cannot predict every calamity.
But we can choose where we put our trust.
Let us not run from God when trouble comes.
LET US RUN TO JESUS.
Because He is:
OUR REFUGE.
OUR STRENGTH.
OUR PEACE.
OUR HOPE.
OUR DELIVERER.
โCALL UPON ME IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE: I WILL DELIVER THEE, AND THOU SHALT GLORIFY ME.โ
โ Psalm 50:15
๐ CHALLENGE FOR JRES BRETHREN
When trials come, will we panic or pray?
When calamity comes, will we fear or have faith?
When we are weak, will we depend on ourselves or depend on Jesus?
Let us stand together as one family, one faith, and one body in
Christ.
In every storm, choose Jesus.
In every trial, trust Jesus.
In every calamity, call upon Jesus.
