Backsliders all have some many area of their heart and life where they will not surrender and not submit to God. Why do backsliders backslide?

Backsliders want to sin. Backsliders have desires that they place above God, making money, career, recreation, unhealthy relationships, and they're distracted until they lose their salvation. Some say they were offended and they became bitter and dishonest. Some are deconstructing their faith which means they're doubting everything. And some are caught up in rebellion.
