WHEN GOD SEES THE OVERLOOKED
Text: Genesis 29:31-35
Speaker: Pastor Mir Cedric Hintay
Introduction:
(Genesis 29:31-35) “And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me. And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon. And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi. And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.”
- “Some people are faithful publicly but hurting silently/emotionally.”
- “Leah was there but unseen, was useful, but unappreciated, she was longing for acceptance, but despite the rejection, leah did not abandon God, her life teaches us one of lifes greatest virtues, and that is faithfulness”
- "Everybody can praise during victories, but not everybody will praise during burdens."
1. The Rejection Leah Experienced
(Genesis 29:31) “And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.”
a.) She was Compared
- “Comparison destroys Joy.”
- “Comparison creates insecurity.”
- “Many Christians become spiritually weak because they spend more time looking sideways than looking upward.”
- “You will never be discouraged when you look at God.”
- “A rose and a sunflower are both beautiful, but they were never designed to look alike. Problems begin when flowers try to compete with each other instead of blooming where God planted them.”
- “God’s plan for others is not the same as His plan for yours.”
b.) She Was Rejected
- “Rejection from People does not mean rejection from God.”
- “People may overlook you, but heaven never does.”
(Isaiah 49:15) “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”
c.) She was Restless
Genesis 29:32 KJV
And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
(Genesis 29:34) “And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.”
- “If your joy depends on people, your emotions will constantly rise and fall.”
- “People are inconsistent. People disappoint. People fail. But Only God provides lasting security”
2. The Response Leah Exhibited
- “Despite her pain, Leah did not walk away from God. Her response reveals remarkable faithfulness.”
a.) She Continued Serving
- “Many people quit church, ministry, praying, serving, trusting God when hurt. But faithfulness continues even when feelings fluctuate.”
- “Christian life is not built on emotions alone.”
- “Faithfulness is obeying god whether life feels fair or not.”
- “A train stays on track not because conditions are easy, but because it remains connected to the rails. Christians stay spiritually stable when they remain connected to God’s Word regardless of circumstances.”
b.) She Continued Seeking
- “Though Leah struggled emotionally, she still looked toward God. Pain can either push people toward God or away from Him. Some become bitter. Others become better.”
- “Let pain deepen your relationship with God.”
- “Broken hearts can still seek God.”
(Psalm 34:18) “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
c.) She Continued Surrendering
- “God often draws closest to hurting people.”
- “Christ did not come down for the fixed people but for the broken ones.”
- “The Christian life changes when approval becomes less important.”
- “The Christian life changes when recognition becomes less important.”
- “The Christian life changes when applause becomes less important, and pleasing God becomes everything.”
3. The Reward Leah Enjoyed
- “Faithfulness never escapes God’s notice.”
- “Your boss, pastor, teacher may not see it, but God will never overlook your faithfulness."
a.) God gave her Purpose
- “The woman who felt unwanted became part of God’s redemption story.”
- “Your pain does not cancel God’s purpose.”
- “Sometimes God develops greatness in hidden places.”
- “Roots grow underground where nobody sees them, yet those unseen roots support the entire tree. Hidden faithfulness produces visible strength later.”
- “True faithfulness is measured not by our ministry involvement, but by our relationship with God.”
b.) God gave her Praise
- “The world celebrates celebrities temporarily, but God honors faithful people eternally.”
- “Many people desire prominence but God desires perseverance.”
- “Success impresses men but Faithfulness impresses God.”
(1 Corinthians 4:2) “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
c.) God gave her Peace
- “True peace comes when God’s acceptance becomes enough.”
- “True peace comes when God’s presence becomes sufficient.”
- “True peace comes when God’s purpose becomes greater than personal pain.”
- “Real peace is not found in getting what we want, not in a life without problems, and not even in a world without conflict. Real peace comes from the presence of God.”
Conclusion:
- “Rejection does not define you.”
- “Pain does not destroy purpose.”
- “Faithfulness matters to God.”
- “God sees what people overlook.”
- “People may look outwardly, God sees inwardly.”
- “The world rewards popularity. God rewards faithfulness.”
- “Do not quit because life may became painful but the same God who saw Leah sees you today.”
