Today, August 23, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast day of Santa Rosa de Lima (Saint Rose of Lima), member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic, the first canonized saint of the Americas, and patroness of florists, gardeners, embroiderers, and people ridiculed for their piety.

Known for her radiant beauty, profound humility, and deep life of prayer and penance, St. Rose dedicated her entire life to serving the poor, the sick, and the marginalized in her community. She bore a crown of roses concealed with sharp thorns, offering all her quiet sacrifices for the love of Christ and the salvation of souls.

Today, August 16, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast day of San Roque (Saint Roch), the beloved patron saint against plagues, epidemics, pestilence, skin diseases, and falsely accused peopleโ€”and protector of dogs and domestic animals.

Renouncing his wealth to live as a humble pilgrim, San Roque selflessly ministered to those suffering from the plague in Italy. When he himself contracted the disease, God provided for him in the wilderness through a faithful dog that brought him bread daily until he was restored.
