Coro de San Sebastian

Coro de San Sebastian One of the official church choirs of San Sebastian basilica in Quiapo, Manila. Serves at the 10:30 A.M. Mass every Sunday Fr. Al. In 2008, Marivic H.

Twenty-two years back Coro De San Sebastian traces its roots at the San Sebastian Basilica where it was formed and started as a Wedding Choir by Rev. Herminigilda Ceniza, OAR, parish priest at the time. Under the leadership and artistic direction of its former conductor Elsie Z. Eranista the group blossomed from a small group of singers who sings at weddings to a choir who regularly renders servic

e at the church. Eventually, the group elevated its craft and unwavering passion for service and singing by participation and winning in numerous choral festivals and competitions both local and international. Best exemplified by its consistent participation and membership in the annual Madz Et. Festivals and various singing engagements. Llamas assumed position after serving as the assistant conductor and also a center soprano for five years when the former decided to turn over the responsibility to her. Now, after periods of transitions, the group still continues to spread and nurture the legacy of excellent choral singing and ever burning commitment to church service.

"In omnibus amare et servire domino"

Today marks another milestone for Coro de San Sebastian. A group that is rooted in service, love, friendship, and music. It has allowed us to express our love for the Lord through music and has introduced us to get to know so many beautiful individuals who love the Lord and have a servant's heart. It brings us together, no matter our differences, in joyous praise.

As we celebrate today, may, our group continue to grow spiritually and musically. May we constantly serve him in spirit and truth.

Happy 30th Anniversary Coro De San Sebastian!

St. Albert the Great, pray for us!
November 15

***
Albert the Great was a 13th-century German Dominican who decisively influenced the Church’s stance toward Aristotelian philosophy brought to Europe by the spread of Islam.

Students of philosophy know him as the master of Thomas Aquinas. Albert’s attempt to understand Aristotle’s writings established the climate in which Thomas Aquinas developed his synthesis of Greek wisdom and Christian theology. But Albert deserves recognition on his own merits as a curious, honest, and diligent scholar.

He was the eldest son of a powerful and wealthy German lord of military rank. He was educated in the liberal arts. Despite fierce family opposition, he entered the Dominican novitiate.

His boundless interests prompted him to write a compendium of all knowledge: natural science, logic, rhetoric, mathematics, astronomy, ethics, economics, politics, and metaphysics. His explanation of learning took 20 years to complete. β€œOur intention,” he said, β€œis to make all the aforesaid parts of knowledge intelligible to the Latins.”

He achieved his goal while serving as an educator at Paris and Cologne, as Dominican provincial, and even as bishop of Regensburg for a short time. He defended the mendicant orders and preached the Crusade in Germany and Bohemia.

Albert, a Doctor of the Church, is the patron of scientists and philosophers.
