Strengthening Families Through Family Home Evening

In a world where life can get busy and everyone seems to be pulled in different directions, Family Home Evening (FHE) gives us an opportunity to slow down, gather together, and make time for what matters most, our family and our relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Family Home Evening doesn’t have to be complicated or perfect. It can be as simple as having an opening prayer, singing a hymn, sharing a short scripture or gospel message, talking about how everyone is doing, playing a game, and enjoying a simple treat together.

What matters most is consistency.

The Church encourages families to hold home evening weekly as a time to learn the gospel, strengthen testimonies, build family unity, and simply enjoy being together.

During the October 2026 General Conference, President Dallin H. Oaks reminded us:

“Strong faith requires more than strong desire. It means daily trying, one step at a time, with prayer and scriptural learning.” (newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org)

Family Home Evening can be one of those small and simple steps.

When we make time for FHE regularly even just once a week, we create opportunities for our children and loved ones to ask questions, share their feelings, learn gospel principles, pray together, laugh together, and build memories together.

It doesn’t need to be long.
It doesn’t need to be formal.
And it definitely doesn’t need to be perfect.

It just needs your family.

Below is a simple sample Family Home Evening program that anyone may follow. Feel free to adjust it according to your family’s needs, ages, and circumstances.

May our homes become places where love is felt, testimonies are strengthened, and our families grow closer to one another and to our Savior, Jesus Christ.

“Families are forever—and strengthening them can begin with one evening at a time.”

NATIONAL FAMILY WEEK 2026 | GUMACA WARD FAMILY DAY

Theme: “Pamilya, Pagkakapantay-pantay at Kapakanan ng Bata”

Today marked the much-awaited culmination of National Family Week 2026 as families and members of Gumaca Ward gathered early in the morning at the Gumaca Ward Chapel for a day filled with learning, fellowship, service, laughter, and meaningful family moments.

The program was presided over by Bishop Mark Christian Valencia, who welcomed everyone with his opening remarks. Bro. Jasper Buslon then shared a spiritual thought to begin the celebration.

The morning continued with inspiring messages centered on strengthening the home and family. Sis. Delia Razo, Young Women Second Counselor, shared a message about “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” followed by Sis. Dolores Recodig, Relief Society President, who spoke on “Love Begins at Home.”

The Full-Time Missionaries then facilitated a missionary fireside activity, 'A One Family to Him', about fellowshipping and its blessings, highlighting the important role each member can play as a fellowshipper and how everyone can contribute to strengthening and helping the ward.

Bishop Valencia also led a discussion on using FamilySearch Memories to preserve treasured family stories, photos, and precious moments for future generations. Members were also introduced to ways they can participate in family history work, including indexing and other activities that can help others discover their ancestors.

And, of course, Family Day would not be complete without food, fun, and bonding! Families enjoyed lunch together before taking part in games such as the sack race, egg-catching game, and other fun activities that brought plenty of smiles and laughter.

The fun continued as Relief Society and Elders Quorum members and leaders showcased their talents through karaoke. A particularly sweet moment came when couples took the opportunity to dance while Elders Quorum President Dindo Razo sang a romantic song.

Before the celebration came to a close, families received a simple plaque of appreciation in recognition of their presence, participation, and contributions throughout the celebration. President Dindo Razo then gave the closing remarks.

But the spirit of Family Week did not end when the program was over. Members and families once again worked side by side to clean and prepare the chapel for the following day’s sacrament meeting—a fitting way to conclude a week that emphasized love, unity, service, and working together.

From spiritual messages and family history to shared meals, games, music, dancing, and service, today was a beautiful reminder that some of life’s most precious memories are created when families learn, serve, laugh, and grow together.

Pamilya. Pagmamahalan. Pagkakaisa. Paglilingkod.

DAY 6 | FAMILY SERVICE & SHARING DAY
National Family Week 2026

Yesterday, members of Gumaca Ward celebrated the sixth day of Family Week by finding simple and meaningful ways to serve and help one another.

As preparations were underway for today’s Family Week celebration, many members willingly offered their time and helping hands. Sisters worked together in preparing and setting up the decorations, while one sister helped by taking care of another sister’s baby so she could continue assisting with the preparations.

After attending their seminary class, the youth also joined in, helping prepare the chapel and decorations for the celebration. The brethren likewise worked alongside the sisters, helping clean the chapel and getting everything ready for the event.

Service was also shown in a different but equally meaningful way. One brother shared a heartfelt conversation with another father, offering advice and words of encouragement about fatherhood. It was a reminder that serving others can also mean listening, sharing experiences, and strengthening someone through encouraging words.

Day 6 showed that service can be found in the simplest moments—helping with a task, caring for a child, cleaning together, sharing advice, or simply being there for someone.

Through their combined efforts, the members of Gumaca Ward prepared not only the chapel for the celebration, but also strengthened the spirit of love, unity, and service among families.

Building Forever Families, one act of service at a time.

Family Week 2026 | Family Appreciation Day

Yesterday’s Family Week 2026 task was a beautiful reminder to show love and appreciation to our families.

Gumaca Ward members shared their treasured moments by writing heartfelt letters for their family members, wives, and fathers. Some also called loved ones who were away for work just to express their love and appreciation.

It was a simple but meaningful activity that reminded us that even small acts of kindness can strengthen family relationships. Truly, families are forever. 💛

Family Week 2026 – Family Appreciation Day!

Today’s Family Week activity is all about taking a moment to show appreciation to the people who mean the most—our family.

Everyone are invited to write a short note or message to a family member beginning with:

“I appreciate you because…”

It can be a handwritten note, text message, drawing, or even a voice message. What matters most is letting a loved one know why they are appreciated and loved.

After completing the activity, members are encouraged to take a photo and share their Family Appreciation Day moments with the ward.

Small words of appreciation can make a big difference in strengthening family relationships.
