A Historic Beginning of Unity and Mission

September 25–28, 2013 marked a milestone in Philippine Southern Baptist history as leaders, pastors, and messengers from the three major Southern Baptist Conventions gathered at Mt. Carmel Baptist Assembly, Kinuskusan, Bansalan, Davao del Sur, Philippines, for the inaugural Federation of Southern Baptist Conventions in the Philippines.
Born from decades of prayer, vision, and earnest desire among past and present leaders, this historic gathering fulfilled a long-awaited dream of fostering stronger cooperation, deeper fellowship, and greater partnership in advancing the mission of Christ throughout the nation and beyond. This long-cherished dream finally came to fruition after more than 50 years of Southern Baptist presence and ministry in the Philippines, making the occasion a landmark event in the history of Philippine Southern Baptists.
The realization of this vision was made possible through the commitment, dialogue, and collaborative efforts of representatives from the three conventions. Through a series of meetings, consultations, and prayerful deliberations, three designated representatives from each convention worked together to lay the foundation for what would eventually become a united fellowship of Southern Baptists across the nation.
Originally organized under the name Samahan ng mga Baptista sa Pilipinas (SBP), the federation embraced the inspiring theme, “Moving Towards a United Vision.”Approximately 380–400 Southern Baptists came together in a spirit of unity, demonstrating that while conventions may be distinct in structure, they share one faith, one mission, and one commitment to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This gathering was more than an organizational event—it was a testimony to God's faithfulness, a celebration of Baptist cooperation, and a declaration that united efforts can accomplish greater things for the Kingdom of God. The federation became a platform for strengthening relationships, encouraging mutual support, and mobilizing churches for evangelism, discipleship, missions, leadership development, and community transformation.
As we look back on this historic moment, we honor the prayers, sacrifices, and visionary leadership of those who paved the way for this fellowship. We also recognize the dedication of those who labored behind the scenes to build bridges of understanding and cooperation among the conventions. Their collective efforts transformed a decades-long aspiration into a reality, inspiring future generations to continue pursuing unity for the advancement of God's mission.
“Moving Towards a United Vision”, was not merely a theme—it was the beginning of a shared journey of faith, cooperation, and Kingdom impact that continues to shape the Southern Baptist family in the Philippines today.
To God be the glory for this historic union of faith, fellowship, and mission among Southern Baptists in the Philippines. May this vision of unity continue to strengthen our witness and expand our mission for generations to come.
