26 May 2026 | Memorial of Saint Philip Neri, Priest - White | Tuesday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

First Reading: 1 Peter 1:10-16
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4
Gospel: Mark 10:28-31

Reflection:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus promises that those who leave everything for His sake will receive even moreβ€”both now and in the life to come, though not without trials. Following Christ involves sacrifice, but it also brings grace and reward. In the first reading, we are called to be holy in all we do, just as God is holy. As we remember Saint Philip Neri, known for his joyful spirit and love for others, we are reminded that holiness can be lived with joy and love. We are invited to follow Jesus wholeheartedly and trust in His promises.

Prayer:
Saint Philip Neri, pray for us that we may follow Christ with joy and faithfulness in our daily lives. Amen.

The Holy Father emphasizes that technology must always serve human dignity and the common good rather than concentrating power among a wealthy few.

Warning against the digital arms race, he reminds the world that "there is no algorithm that can make war morally acceptable" and urges global leaders to use innovation to protect workers, lift up the vulnerable, and build peace.

Today, we honor St. Philip Neri, who is remembered as the "Apostle of Rome" and the patron saint of joy. Living during a time of widespread spiritual indifference and corruption, he dedicated his life to renewing the faith of the people. Before his ordination as a priest, he spent many years serving the public as a layman, developing close friendships with individuals from all social backgrounds, including both the poor and church leaders.

St. Philip eventually established the Oratory, a community focused on prayer, sacred music, and direct service to those in need. He became a trusted adviser to many due to his humility, kindness, and clear insight into human nature. His life remains an enduring example that true holiness is built on sincere charity, approachable faith, and a peaceful heart.

Philip Neri, Patron saint of joy, you who trusted Scripture's promise that the Lord is always at hand and that we need not have anxiety about anything, In your compassion heal our worries and sorrows and lift the burdens from our hearts. Pagninilay:
Sa Ebanghelyo ngayon, sinabi ni Hesus na ang mga nag-iwan ng lahat alang-alang sa Kanya ay tatanggap ng mas higit paβ€”hindi lamang sa hinaharap kundi maging sa kasalukuyan, kasama man ang mga pagsubok. Ipinapaalala nito na ang pagsunod kay Kristo ay may kaakibat na sakripisyo, ngunit may kasamang biyaya at gantimpala. Sa unang pagbasa, tinatawag tayong maging banal sa lahat ng ating gawain, tulad ng Diyos na banal. Sa paggunita kay San Felipe Neri, na kilala sa kanyang kagalakan at malasakit sa kapwa, ipinapakita na ang kabanalan ay maaaring isabuhay nang may saya at pag-ibig. First Reading: Genesis 3:9-15, 20 (or Acts 1:12-14)
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 87:1-2, 3 and 5, 6-7
Gospel: John 19:25-34

Reflection:
In today’s Gospel, at the foot of the Cross, Jesus entrusts Mary to His disciples: β€œBehold, your mother.” In that moment, Mary becomes the Mother of the Churchβ€”our mother. She shares deeply in Christ’s suffering and love. Like Mary, we are called to remain faithful even in times of pain and uncertainty. She is a model of trust and obedience to God. We are invited to turn to her as a loving mother who leads us closer to Jesus.

Prayer:
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us and lead us closer to your Son, Jesus. Amen.

Celebrated on the Monday right after Pentecost, this memorial reminds us of the beautiful moment at the foot of the Cross when Jesus entrusted all of us to His mother, saying, "Behold, your mother." Established as an obligatory feast by Pope Francis in 2018, this title honors Mary’s continuous presence and her growing, mature "yes" to God's plan.

While the disciples fled, Mary stood firmly by the Cross with immense dignity and strength. It was through this absolute fidelity in the midst of suffering that her motherhood was extended to the entire Church. Just as she stood by her Son, Mary now stands by each of us in our own trials, constantly guiding us to grow in faith and closer to Christ.

𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐔𝐒 ππ‘π€π˜: Most glorious Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, to you I entrust myself, just as Jesus entrusted John to your care. Receive me as your spiritual child, and nurture me with your Son's divine grace. May my 'Yes' echo yours as I surrender fully to God's plan. Mother Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.

Sa Ebanghelyo ngayon, sa paanan ng krus, ipinagkatiwala ni Hesus si Maria bilang Ina ng Kanyang mga alagad: β€œNarito ang iyong ina.” Sa sandaling iyon, si Maria ay naging Ina ng Sambayananβ€”Ina nating lahat. Ipinapakita nito ang Kanyang malalim na pakikiisa sa paghihirap at pagmamahal ni Kristo. Tulad ni Maria, tayo ay inaanyayahang manatiling matatag sa pananampalataya kahit sa gitna ng sakit at pagsubok. Siya ay huwaran ng pagtitiwala at pagsunod sa Diyos.
