27 August 2026 | Memorial of Saint Monica - White | Thursday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time [II]
First Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
Gospel: Matthew 24:42-51
Reflection:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus urges us to stay awake and be ready, for we do not know the day or the hour of His coming. Readiness is not simply waiting but faithfully carrying out our daily responsibilities according to God's will. In the first reading, Saint Paul reminds the Corinthians that God is faithful and will strengthen them until the end. As we commemorate Saint Monica, whose persistent prayers and unwavering trust led to the conversion of her son, Saint Augustine, we are reminded never to lose hope. Perseverance in prayer, faithfulness to God, and trust in His perfect timing always bear fruit.
Prayer:
Lord, help us live each day prepared for Your coming. Through the example of Saint Monica, teach us to persevere in prayer and trust wholeheartedly in Your faithful promises. Amen.
