Finding A Community to Call Home

Switch is a community that I will always love. I never felt like I belonged in anything, may it be school, home, society, or others; but I felt comfortable and at home in Switch. Switch helped me to be in line with God, teaching and reminding me of His words. I got to know more about God because of Switch. There were moments when I got the “feels” because the message really spoke to me. I also love the people there. They are very hospitable and loving. I can see their sincerity and effort in the things they do. I am very grateful for all the things they have done for us. Being part of the praise and worship team in Switch is something I will always cherish. I am happy and thankful that God gave me this opportunity to worship and glorify him through music, something I really love. Switch makes me want to pursue God more. I am forever grateful for Switch.

Before I joined Switch, my spiritual life was relatively stagnant. I read the Bible and had morning devotions, but I never really felt intimately connected to God. I regularly prayed to God. I tried to resolve my spiritual struggles. But it never felt rewarding, satisfying, or motivating at any point in my spiritual journey. Because of this, I began to view God as Someone who wants to make your life miserable with do’s and don'ts. Switch changed all that. Switch made me realize that it's not all about me trying to be a better Christian; instead it was all about God's love transforming my life into becoming more like Christ. Switch reminded me that Christianity isn't all about practicing religion and constraining yourself with ascetic rules-----it's about enjoying a satisfying and abundant spiritual life with Christ. Finally, Switch taught me that the Christian faith isn't meant to be lived out alone-----it's about forming community and fellowship. In the short time that I had with Switch, my spiritual life has been completely transformed. Switch may come to an end; but the spiritual insights, Biblical truths, and the priceless friendships that I have formed in Switch will forever be engraved in my heart.

Finding A Community to Grow In

For me, every time I go to Switch, I feel like I'm going there for the first time again, because every lesson and time of worship made me feel the presence of God. Whenever we're reflecting at the end of the discussion, I realize I'm not alone, because He's there beside me. The Switch community helped me through my darkest times. They helped me reconnect with God again. As I say farewell to Switch, I would like to give my deepest gratitude to the community for the love and support they gave me and for how guided me whenever I had questions. Thank you for making me feel like I'm home.

Upon joining Switch, the first thing that I was inclined to do was to look for a safe space. This wasn't easy considering how I was new to a church's environment. I've always envisioned the church as a place where I pretend that I was without fault. Instead, Switch taught me how the community is not a place to put on a clean and perfect facade, but a group of broken people helping to lift each other up in a subsequently broken world. God was able to use Switch to show me how we, too, can help switch each other on and help bring back the fire to those who need it, because God resides in every one of us, no matter how big or small we think we are. Out of all the memories I've had with my Switch family, I believe our Christmas services were the brightest. It was never a dull moment to see old and new faces; those trying to get back to having a relationship with Christ, or those stepping out of their comfort zones for the first time to experience His love. I'm glad that Switch became the first family I had in church. And until now, I still can’t imagine how differently my walk with Christ would have turned out if I was with any other community.

To SWITCH,

Glory to God in the highest! I want to commend all of you for your passion, faithfulness and dedication in serving the Lord. Indeed, I admire all of you. You gave all your best to make this ministry possible and to give the youth the opportunity to worship God during Saturdays.

I also want to acknowledge all the leaders. You are a living testimony, a shining light. Your testimony matches your action.

I thank the Lord for the opportunity to minister with you, Though I was not able to have more time with you, you still welcomed me wholeheartedly.

I encourage everyone to continue on bearing fruit, for this is the reason we are called. As Jesus said “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (John 15:16).

I pray for all of you to continue having the fullness of joy in service to the Lord.

Dear Switch Family,

I have so much good memories of Switch that I envision that God has greater things in store for all of you.

Through God’s work in our lives, we have become better versions of ourselves. Let us press on. Let us always keep our light bulbs on.

As we move into the Discipleship Center, there will always be a place for you to minister and be ministered to. Yes, we will be switching names or venue, perhaps even some activities. Yet, we will continue sharing our lives with one another, as we fulfill God’s commission of making disciples of all nations.

Moving on to where God leads along with you,

-Pastor Albert See

Dear Switch Family,

The first time you talked to me about a Saturday youth fellowship, I didn’t really know what to make of it. The only responsibility I had was to bring our then young and small PIQC kids to CBCP every Saturday afternoon. Little did I know that the Switch family would become an integral part of our campus ministry. You extended the limited service we could provide to our students. How you leveraged your spiritual gifts as a team allowed Switch to become what it is today - a loving family who makes its members feel like they’re a big part of it.

What I admire about the Switch family is the passion and love in everything you do. Switch will not be what it is today without that component. It is your biggest asset as a team, I must say. Your enthusiasm and energy in serving inspires our disciples to do the same because they see you joyful in the Lord’s work.

I can only imagine how it feels to say goodbye to a ministry that could’ve blessed a lot more lives, especially the young ones. With that said, I know that you know that this is not the end. It’s only the beginning. When God closes a door, (I won’t say He opens a window because that is so cliché, haha!) He instead opens a bigger door because you have proven how you have stewarded what He has given you well. Now that we’re movin’ to a bigger church, continue preparin’ and growin’. Expect that God has a crazy surprise waitin’.

Even though I haven’t been able to attend in the last few months, know that I am just here (especially when you need a coach and a trainer in your ministry). I look forward to the next magic you’ll be creatin’ with God very soon. Goodbye Switch family. You will be a big part of the lives of these students, as you are in mine.

A Leap of Faith and its Lasting Fruits

I will never forget how Switch enabled me to start a Life Group. Around 3 years ago, before the launch of Switch the idea to start an after-Switch Life Group was proposed. I was nervous during our core meeting because I felt God nudging me to take this opportunity to start discipling people. I kept thinking, “I’m not yet qualified for this.” There was real fear in me: fear of failure and fear that I might cause people to stumble. Yet, my Switch family believed in me even as I doubted myself. They encouraged me to take the next step in my spiritual journey.

So, I decided to take the leap of faith and follow God’s call. The following months amazed me as I saw and experienced how God equipped and enabled me to lead a Life Group. With the guiding core values of Switch, I was able to love my disciples and share Christ to them. And while there were ups and downs in my discipleship journey, I was able to grow from the experience and learn from them.

Looking back at all those years, I can’t help but be thankful. My Switch journey bore me so much fruit. It gave me a family that I feel accepted by and inspired me to help people find a community that they can call home. Even though the Switch worship service is drawing to a close, all the memories will continue to live on in our hearts. After all, Switch was never just a place, it was our identity that we can continue to bring with us wherever we go.

God-given

Looking back at my time with Switch made me realize that I had experienced more impact in that short amount of time, than the rest of my life.

The first thing God has given me is how I could listen to His voice in the messages. House time especially helped me gain ready ears for the Lord. Sharing each other’s insights and take-aways created an interest in constantly reflecting on the Word in front of us and what was hidden deep within it.

The second thing God has given me is support. I learned to open up more to people and to place my trust in them and in God. I was given support during different trials in my life that I originally thought I could handle on my own. The help from other people in Switch made it easier to reflect on and cope with the situations. It helped change my perspective on the difficulties I faced and opened up new possible ways God would want me to respond. This experience has led me to understand and realize what to do when the same thing happens again.

Another kind of support I was given is in learning how to be with God’s people. I practiced interacting with people and learned to serve in small ways, like making people feel welcomed. Listening to other people broadened my horizons, not only through their insights on the message, but also in ways to serve the Lord. I have never realized, until my time with the people of Switch, that there were so many different possible ways to serve other than the obvious.

The last thing God has given me are people I feel I can be with. I found a group that I got to truly grow in God together with. I have learned so many things through these people who have supported me. Their actions made me want to support them too, in any way possible - through prayer, talking, or listening. It is similar to finding and being with a bunch of sticks that won’t easily break compared to being a stick on its lonesome.

The time with Switch both felt long yet too short, but I will never forget it. God placed me here because He knows that I can grow here. Whether we are together or disbanded, Switch is now a part of our hearts and the history of togetherness will neither vanish nor be erased.

A Message from the Magnetics!

I thank God for giving me the opportunity to serve in Switch. For someone who was (and is still) afraid of crowds and talking to a lot of new people, God has a big sense of humor. He strategically placed me somewhere I didn’t expect I would actually grow to love. Being part of the Magnetic (Logistics) team meant that I had to deal with - You guessed it! - crowds and a lot of new people! Being part of the music team, preparing snacks, and making sure people got home safely might seem to only have a small significance on the actual service, but I found joy in doing the little things and serving a community that I can call home.

Every Saturday felt like a family reunion . Sometimes people you hadn’t seen in a long time would come, and you got to pick up the conversation right where you left off. I’m going to miss asking people if they need transpo going home and telling the “childrens” to message me when they arrive safely.

Throughout the years, I also got to train a young padawan as well - Ellijah - whom I see myself very much in. I passed on all I know so that he could eventually take on the role (Like mother, like son!).

At first I was a bit scared and nervous committing as a volunteer, as I was already attending Switch for some time when they invited me to serve. But through spending time with God, He showed me that I had nothing to be afraid of, and I have never regretted that choice since. I thank God everyday for using Switch to bless not only me, but also so many of my friends at PIQC. I wouldn't be who I am today if not for Him. I have made a lot of new friends and have found a community here in Switch.
