Inay Salud - Our Lady of Health

Inay Salud - Our Lady of Health The image of Nuestra Señora de la Salud of the Augustinian Recollects was brought to the Philippines in 1634. John the Baptist. Honesto Ongtioco, DD.

The Official page of the Cofradia del Tránsito de Nuestra Señora dedicated for the propagation of the devotion to Nuestra Señora de La Salud of the Order of Augustinian Recollects The image was first enshrined in the first church of the Recollect missionaries in Bagumbayan, now Luneta, which was dedicated to St. The venerated image was transferred to Intramuros three times when the Bagumb

ayan Church was destroyed until the image was permanently enshrined in the old San Nicolas Church of the Recollects in Intramuros. One of the most notable miracles of the dark Virgin of Health was during the infamous Chinese uprising in 1639. A novena was held in her honor to ask for the health of the army and to establish peace. The novena was held with grand solemnity, attended by no less than the Archbishop of Manila, the city officials, the Royal Audiencia, and the great multitude of the faithful, who profited much from the devotion to the Virgen de la Salud. She generously granted what they asked and celebrated her feast day with much grand and solemnity. Since then, the devotion to the Virgin of Health flourished. Years later, the War broke out and San Nicolas Church was one of the unfortunate casualties. The Virgin, along with the miraculous Crucifix of Casiguran, an ivory image of St. Michael the Archangel and a chalice given by Pope Leo XIII were spared and immediately transferred to the sacristy of San Sebastian Basilica. The Virgin was later evacuated from the sacristy of Minor Basilica of San Sebastián in Quiapo, Manila and moved later to the new vicariate house of the order in Quezon City. The image was later donated to the Museo Recoletos in the 1980's and stayed there since then. In 2016, the image returned to Intramuros to participate at the annual Grand Marian Procession that sparked the revival of the devotion. At present, the Augustinian Recollects are now making efforts to revive the devotion to the Virgin of Health. In 2017, years after her shrine was destroyed, she finally found a new home in the Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino in Congressional Ave, Quezon City where the Filipino faithful can finally give their love and devotion to their Beloved Mother, the Lady of Health, just like what their ancestors did centuries ago. In 2021, the Cofradia de Tránsito de Nuestra Señora was re-established and received ecclesiastical recognition from the Bishop of Cubao, Most Rev. The Perpetual Novena in honor of Nuestra Señora de la Salud and the Statutes of the Cofradia gained approval from the same ecclesiastical authority.

St. Joseph, the humble carpenter of Nazareth, is honored under the title St. Joseph the Worker as the patron of all laborers and craftsmen. By the work of his hands, he provided for the Holy Family, sanctifying human labor through diligence, integrity, and love.

Instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1955, this memorial highlights the dignity of work and reminds the faithful that labor is not merely a means of livelihood, but a participation in God’s ongoing creation. In the workshop of Nazareth, St. Joseph transformed ordinary tasks into acts of worship and service.

As the foster father of Our Lord and the chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph exemplifies obedience, perseverance, and silent strength. He teaches us that holiness is found not only in extraordinary deeds, but also in the faithful fulfillment of daily responsibilities.

May St. Joseph inspire all workers to labor with honesty, patience, and devotion, offering their efforts for the glory of God and the service of our brothers and sisters.

With profound joy and thanksgiving, San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish-Q.C., Quezon City — Shrine of the Miraculous and Venerated Image of Nuestra Señora de la Salud — celebrates the solemn Rite of Dedication of the Church and Altar on April 30, 2026, as the culminating event of its Golden Jubilee and 50th Foundation Anniversary.

Presided over by the Most Rev. Elias L. Ayuban Jr., CMF, DD, JCD, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cubao, this sacred rite marks a historic milestone in the life of our parish community. Through the solemn consecration of this holy temple and its altar, this house of prayer is set apart forever for the worship of Almighty God and the sanctification of His people.

For fifty years, the parish has stood as a living witness to steadfast faith, generous service, and enduring devotion under the loving patronage of Saint Nicolas de Tolentino and the maternal care of Nuestra Señora de la Salud. Today, this dedication becomes both a crowning moment of gratitude and a renewed commitment to our mission as a community of believers.

𝐒𝐓. 𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐀

St. Catherine of Siena (1347–1380) was a Dominican tertiary, mystic, and Doctor of the Church, renowned for her profound holiness, bold charity, and fearless voice in the life of the Church.

Born in Siena, Italy, she experienced mystical encounters with Christ from a young age and dedicated her life entirely to prayer, penance, and service. Though she lived in seclusion for much of her early life, her wisdom and sanctity soon drew people of all ranks—religious, lay, and even political leaders—who sought her counsel.

St. Catherine became a powerful force for reform during a time of crisis in the Church. She urged the return of the papacy from Avignon to Rome and wrote extensive letters to popes, cardinals, and rulers, always calling them to holiness, courage, and fidelity to Christ. Despite her lack of formal education, she was gifted with extraordinary theological insight, later recognized when she was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church.

Her spiritual masterpiece, The Dialogue, reveals her deep mystical union with God and her understanding of divine truth, love, and mercy. She lived a life of intense prayer, suffering, and complete conformity to Christ crucified.

She died at the age of 33, offering her life for the Church she loved so deeply.

St. Peter of Verona, also known as St. Peter Martyr, was born in Verona, Italy, around 1205. Raised by parents sympathetic to the Albigensian heresy, he nevertheless embraced the fullness of the Catholic faith from an early age. He later entered the Order of Preachers, receiving the Dominican habit from none other than St. Dominic himself.

A gifted preacher and fearless defender of orthodoxy, St. Peter dedicated his life to proclaiming the truth of the Gospel and combating heresy with both clarity and charity. His eloquence, holiness, and unwavering zeal won many souls back to the Church.

His steadfast fidelity ultimately led to martyrdom. On April 6, 1252, while traveling from Como to Milan, he was attacked by assassins hired by heretics. Even as he lay dying, tradition recounts that he traced the words of the Creed upon the ground with his own blood, professing his faith until his final breath.

Canonized less than a year after his death by Pope Innocent IV, St. Peter of Verona remains one of the Church’s most beloved martyrs.

The National Pilgrim Image of Nuestra Señora de la Salud was enshrined at the Cathedral Parish of St. Paul the First Hermit — San Pablo Cathedral on 18 April 2026, the final church of the pilgrimage.

Established in 1716 and elevated as the cathedral of the Diocese of San Pablo in 1967, this historic church stands as a living witness to enduring faith in Laguna. Dedicated to St. Paul the First Hermit, it continues to be a spiritual home for countless devotees who seek prayer, healing, and hope.

This journey is also offered in union with the Jubilee of the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi, commemorating his passing into eternal life and inviting the faithful to reflect on his witness of humility, poverty, and total love for God — echoed throughout the Franciscan churches visited during the pilgrimage.

As the pilgrimage reaches its final stop, the faithful gather in thanksgiving, reflecting on the graces received throughout their journey. With hearts full of gratitude, they entrust all their prayers and intentions to the loving intercession of Inay Salud.
