Ateneo Catechetical Instruction League (ACIL) - Making Christ a Living Reality for 118 years.

At its conception in 1905, the group was known as the Catequistas del Ateneo. The Catequistas del Ateneo was finally renamed the Ateneo Catechetical Instruction League in 1924. Having been created as a response to the severe lack of religious education of children in marginalized communities, the ACILista is a catechist first and foremost. The ACIL’s motto of “Ite et Docete” or “Go Forth and Teach”—Christ’s last command to his disciples—was first coined by Fr. John Hurley, SJ, in 1922.

Today is Good Friday of the Lord's Passion

By giving up his own Son for our sins, God manifests that his plan for us is one of benevolent love, prior to any merit on our part: "In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. God "shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." (CCC 604)

This is the Christ we are called to make a Living Reality. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.

The Paschal Triduum begins.

At the Last Supper with his apostles on the eve of his passion Jesus anticipated, that is, both symbolized his free self-offering and made it really present: “This is my Body which is given for you” (Luke 22:19), “This is my Blood which is poured out...” (Matthew 26:28) Thus he both instituted the Eucharist as the “memorial” (1 Corinthians 11:25) of his sacrifice and instituted his apostles as priests of the new covenant.

May we remember our commandment, our Mandatum and be moved to how much Christ loves us.

🌿 HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST

Today is Palm Sunday, marking the beginning of Holy Week. This moment marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. He enters not by violence or force, but with humility and bears witness to the truth as the Messiah (CCC 559-560)

Hosanna, which means "Save!" or "Give Salvation!", acclaims Jesus as son of David, the one who brings salvation, and the "King of glory". With our blessed palms raised, let us join the children and the poor who welcomed him in celebration and longing and remember Christ's Love in His Passion.

"Hosanna to the Son of David;
blessed is He who comes in
the name of the Lord;
hosanna in the highest." (Matthew 21:9)

Here at ACIL, teaching means helping the kids encounter Christ.

Last October 25, Area Teaching Sessions returned. Accompanied by the org's Jesuit Scholastics, ACIL brought the coming Sunday Gospel to the kids of Kaingin 1. Through energizers and structured learning experiences, they were disposed to learn the lessons of the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector.

The message was simple: God loves both the Pharisee and Tax Collector anyway, but we must respond to God’s love with humility, honesty, and self-awareness. The Area Teaching Session ended with praying to Christ, imagining him as a friend earnestly listening to what is in our hearts.

As Advent draws near, may we prepare to receive Christ like the Tax Collector, humbly asking to receive God’s mercy and love.
