The reading we just heard begins with this sober reminder โ visible signs of faith must never make us blind to the hidden condition of souls. A crowded church is a true blessing, but it does not mean that we have truly reached out to those present and touched their hearts. Religious activities can be flourishing while, in nearby homes, relationships are breaking down, faith is weakening, and people are silently losing hope.
This is why the Legion must direct itself to the individual's soul. The Legion does not deal merely with crowds, neighborhoods, or groups of people. We are sent to particular persons. Each one has a name, a history, a story, and a longing that may not be immediately visible.
We often see only what a person has become. However, the legionary must also ask what happened to that person, what remains wounded within, and where grace could find an opening.
The scale of these problems can make us feel powerless, but the Legion does not wait until it can solve everything. It should begin with souls that are presently within reach. A word of consolation given to one troubled person is not insignificant. Teaching a child to pray is not insignificant. Helping one person return to the church and the sacraments is not insignificant. Each act of grace weakens the hold of evil at a particular point.

The Legion must direct itself to the individual soul because Christ does not save people only as part of a crowd. He calls each one personally. May Our Lady teach us to recognize the soul hidden behind the face, the silence, the resistance, and even the failure. May she give us the patience to remain, the courage to return, and the faith to believe that no sincere act of love offered for one soul is ever wasted. ๐
