Looking unto Jesus - Pastor Grundy Q. Goden

Philippians 4:6-7
[6] Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. [7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Dead reader. I hope you are having a good time right now. I couldn't imagine what all of you may be going through but I would just like to tell you, God is faithful in fulfilling His promises.

I don't know if you've experienced this but, are there times in your life where you did what you know God is telling you but the result was not what you were expecting? Eventually, when this happens, anxiety now gets the best of us that we do not know what to do next. Being a young preacher, I experienced all this, and my oh my, it is something not to be taken lightly.

When Paul mentioned the line, "Be careful for nothing", he pertains to being anxious. In other words, don't worry about "nothing", because sometimes, the things that cause our anxiety are things or worries that only escalated in our minds. The more we think about things we can nothing about, the more anxiety takes over us.

That is why the Bible gave valuable advice. Prayer is the best weapon against these things. In case you are feeling down and stressed pause and pray a little. Pray that God would look upon you and give you the answers you are looking for. Pray that God would lead you on the right path for you. Always remember that God is looking out for you and He knows what is best for you.

One day John Wesley was walking with a troubled man who expressed his doubt as to the goodness of God. He said, “I do not know what I shall do with all this worry and trouble.”

At the same moment, Wesley saw a cow looking over a stone wall. “Do you know,” asked Wesley, “why that cow is looking over the wall?”

“No,” said the worried man.

Wesley said, “The cow is looking over the wall because she cannot see through it. That is what you must do with your wall of trouble—look over it and avoid it.”

Faith enables us to look past our circumstances and focus on Christ. Always take note of what Hebrews 10:23 said, He (God) is faithful who promised.

Today's Principle: Look past your problems and have faith in God.

Proverbs 24:5-6
[5] A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. [6] For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

The book of proverbs was authored by God and written by the wisest king Israel ever had, King Solomon. When Solomon was anointed as the next king of Israel, God asked him what he wants and God will give it to him. Instead of asking for money or power, Solomon asked God for wisdom.

2 Chronicles 1:6-12
[6] And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the Lord, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it. [7] In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. [8] And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. [9] Now, O Lord God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. [10] Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? [11] And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: [12] Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

God liked what Solomon asked for. Instead of giving him plain wisdom, God gave him riches and power as well. God admired the heart Solomon had so he gave him more than what he could've imagined.

Going back to the main passage of our devotion, you would see that wisdom is strength to anyone who possesses it. Wisdom, to put it simply, is the right application of knowledge. A man can be knowledgeable about a lot of things without being wise, so we should learn how to balance it out. As the passage says, you are strong when you are wise, then knowledge will continually increase your strength.

Where does wisdom come from? It comes from God.

James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Solomon asked God and He gave him wisdom. He went on to be famous because of it. He made good decisions whenever he seeks help from God. That itself is being wise.

Another thing that we could see from this passage is that wisdom is from counselors. The more you surround yourself with people who are righteous and wise, you become wiser and wiser.

That is why one primary enemy of wisdom is pride. If we think we know everything, we will no longer listen to counseling. When a person thinks he knows better, he will not even approach someone for counseling. But when we humble ourselves and listen to good advice, there is safety.

Nothing can compare to the words of God as our source of wisdom. We will not only grow wiser, we will be better people as well. We will learn to love more and show genuine concern for others.

So may you find it in your heart to ask God for wisdom today.

Today's Principle: Wisdom is from God and he uses righteous counselors.

Our two-week immersion program was a success❗ 💯💯💯

Our young people's spirits have been recharged, their commitment to God is renewed, and their faith in God has been restored. They are now ready to face oncoming challenges because they know God is on their side. 🙏

Our Faith Learner's Growth Workshop is continually being blessed by God and our young people are happy for it!
