THE Duterte administration expects the price of rice to decline further on the second year of the law lifting import restrictions that brought prices to a seven-year low.

During a Palace briefing on Wednesday, Socioeconomic Undersecretary Mercedita A. Sombilla said the price of rice could fall to around P34 to P35 per kilo this year, from the current price of around P36 per kilo — the lowest since 2013.

Mindanao Development Authority chairman Emmanuel Piñol earlier called on the private sector to help as the deadly swine disease threatened not only hog stock in the province but could also possibly devastate other areas of Mindanao.

Piñol said the Mindanao Hog Raisers Association and PILMICO Feeds Corp., an Aboitiz Company, have sent disinfectants, backpack sprayers, and power sprayers to decontaminate the affected areas, where hundreds of pigs have died since last week.

“After initial confusion, national government agencies, local governments, and the private sector jointly jumped into action and implemented a total ban on the transport of hogs and pork from the whole province,” Piñol said.

DAVAO CITY -The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) is now promoting Moringa or malunggay seeds propagation to raise the food source of ordinary households through vegetable growing.

In a statement, MinDA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that in the town of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte , he gave packets of Moringa seeds to Mayor Rommel Arnado last January 15 for propagation in his town.

“Moringa or “malunggay” is a common vegetable which has earned much attention making it into herbal medicines or ingredient to the Pinoy’s favorite salted bread “pandesal”.
