Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus’ words about fire and division are startling. The “fire” is the purifying presence of the Holy Spirit, which burns away what is false and awakens true discipleship. It is not a destructive flame, but one that transforms hearts into instruments of God’s kingdom.

The “division” He speaks of is the unavoidable tension that arises when the Gospel confronts human attachments, values, and loyalties. Faith in Christ does not always bring immediate peace; it often provokes conflict within families, societies, and even within our own hearts because the call of Jesus demands ultimate allegiance.

This passage reminds us that Christianity is not about mere comfort but about costly fidelity. To follow Christ is to let His fire reshape us, even if it sets us apart from the world. True peace comes not from avoiding conflict but from living fully in God’s truth.

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Prayer isn’t about having the right words.
It’s about showing up honestly, persistently, faithfully.
Even when we don’t know what to say,
God listens to the heart that keeps knocking

As followers of Christ, we are called to be living witnesses of His love. To "be a good memory to someone" is not just about being kind it is about being Christ-like. It means allowing God’s love to shine through our words, actions, and presence, so that when people remember us, they remember hope, compassion, and peace.

In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." When we love patiently, forgive sincerely, and serve selflessly, we plant seeds of goodness that stay in people’s hearts long after we’re gone.

May we strive not just to make an impression, but to leave an impact one that points others toward Christ.

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Luke 10:38-42

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus visits the home of Martha and Mary. Martha is busy serving, making sure everything is in order. Mary, on the other hand, simply sits at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him. Martha gets frustrated and asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her. But Jesus gently reminds Martha that being with Him is the better part.

This passage invites us to look at our own lives. Are we so busy doing things for Jesus that we forget to just be with Him? Both action (like Martha’s service) and contemplation (like Mary’s listening) are important, but Jesus is calling us today to slow down, listen, and choose the better part, time with Him.

MORNING PRAYER

Father,
we rejoice in the gifts of love
we have received from the heart of Jesus your Son.
Open our hearts to share his life
and continue to bless us with his love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
