🌎 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦

Sometimes, even a small opportunity can become a powerful way to 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 🌱

In St. Clair, Pennsylvania, USA, residents have been working to protect their community and environment amid plans for a possible expansion of a landfill onto 177 acres of land. When the Sisters of the Good Shepherd learned that the Congregation held a small ownership interest in the property, the U.S. | Toronto Region chose to 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Sr. Gayle Lwanga represented the Region at a court hearing, bringing the Congregation’s commitment to 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, environmental justice, and the common good into the legal process.

"𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩".

Around 50 residents gathered at the courthouse, where the proceedings gave the community further opportunity to have its concerns heard. The story is a reminder that 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 are deeply interconnected. 💚

"Pistang masaya pero tumatarak sa puso..." - Cardinal Tagle

Yesterday, we celebrated the feast of St. John Eudes and the Eudists’ 20th year in the Philippines: a Mass with Fr. Robert Leus, CJM at the Good Shepherd Chapel, and another with Cardinal Tagle at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice.

Fr. Robert reminded the sisters of the Heart of the Shepherd who seeks, loves, and sends:
“Let God shepherd you... let the love of God transform you, and let the love of Christ send you!”

Cardinal Tagle led us into a deep self-examination as he reflected on the Heart of Jesus, the center of St. John Eudes’ spirituality. In the wake of the recent campus violence involving our young people, and amid the climate crisis we find ourselves in, he asked: “Nasaan ang puso natin? May puso pa ba tayo?”

Have we allowed social media and AI “na mga walang puso” to be the ones shaping our hearts and guiding our choices? He also exhorted parents, guardians, and families to truly face one another and be present to one another when together, instead of being glued to our gadgets.

Indeed, it was a joyful feast that also cut deep into our hearts. May St. John Eudes lead us once again deep into the Heart of God and deep into our own humanity.

St John Eudes pray for us! During this time of suffering for many of our brothers and sisters impacted by the monsoon rains and in the wake of the tragic realities faced by our young people, may we respond with God's love and mercy as Jesus would.
