The Office of Evangelization for Social Communication, under the Dominican Province of the Philippines, is responsible for the promotion of Evangelization through the use of social communication and information technology, seeking new avenues for preaching the Word, through production of multi-media materials and resources, and cultivating healthy relations with people and institutions involved in
mass media, in consonance with the aspirations and advocacies of the Catholic Church and the Dominican Order. Formerly known as the Provincial Media Board, the office was incorporated into the Institute of Preaching by the Provincial Chapter of 2012, in order to consolidate the Province’s efforts and energies under the primary goal of preaching as evangelization through social communication. The office is also a leading partner in the multi-sectoral Dominican Family Commission on Social Communication. The office has been producing the annual Siete Palabras, the longest-running Good Friday live-broadcast on Philippine television, featuring Dominicans reflecting and preaching on the Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross. As the province’s eminent contribution to the jubilee celebration of the 800th year of the foundation of the Order of Preachers, the office produce the full-length film Dominic: Light of the Church, which has been screened all over the Philippines and in five other countries: Taiwan, Spain, France, Poland and the US. Also, the office co-produced the documentary Manaoag: The Call of the Virgin, shown as a Lenten TV Special program, which won a special citation in the 2010 Catholic Mass Media Awards. Its latest project is the iLumen: Sharing the Light of Faith, a series of short clips about the Christian faith, for dissemination in the worldwide web as a means for New Evangelization.
