The strong faith and love of religion was the greatest attribute in the establishment of Jesus, Lord of the Divine Mercy Parish. It started as a chapel located at Hobart Village, Zabarte Road, Novaliches, Quezon City construct
ed by Hobart Homeowners Association under the supervision of the mother parish, Our Lady of Mercy. According to some accounts, the choice of the chapelโs patron was providential. The chapel was not spared by strong winds and heavy rains. The caretaker of the chapel later found out that all images inside the chapel were brought down by winds, except for the image of the Divine Mercy. With the story, the elders had chosen the Divine Mercy as its protector and patron. On September 26, 1994, the chapel was formally enshrined as one of the parishes of the Archdiocese of Manila by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin. The parish has a population of 40,000 parishioners, residing in 10 areas, namely: Cruzville Subdivision, Hobart Village, United Neighborhood Association, St. Jude-Quintos, Kaligayahan-Looban, Greenfields I Subdivision, North Olympus-Hillcrest Subdivision, Tawid-Sapa II, Rivera-Calalang-Siojo Compound and Villa San Agustin Subd. The first parish priest was Fr. Lincoln Carabana and on May 10, 1997, Rev. Fr. James Nitollama was appointed as the subsequent parish priest. On Jubilee Year 2000, Fr. Nitollama made a proposal to the Archdiocese of Manila to create a new parish at Greenfields I Subd. from the mother parish, for a better pastoral care of the growing population. The new parish was dedicated to St. Maximilian Ma. Kolbe and to be composed of four (4) areas from the mother parish and three more from the Immaculate Concepcion Parish (Greenfields II). The proposal was approved and with the establishment of the new parish, JLDMP maintained six (6) areas under its parochial jurisdiction. On June 1, 2007, in the general reshuffle of parish priests in the Diocese of Novaliches, Rev. James Gaa was assigned as its pastor. His first year in the parish was dedicated to the different religious formations, the Parish Renewal Experience (PREX), Marriage Encounter Weekend, Kasalang Bayan, Bible studies and teachings, continued formation and trainings for the existing church ministries. In the early days of his second year, Fr. Gaa with the Parish Pastoral Council focused on the renovation of the existing church. This is to build a bigger and spacious structure for the growing church goers and give a more decent home to Jesus, Lord of the Divine Mercy. The renovation started on August 8, 2008 and in less than a year the church edifice was almost complete with the new altar in place. And on September 22, 2012 in time for the eighteenth foundation anniversary, Bishop Antonio R. Tobias, D.D., consecrated and dedicated the Parish Church. Before the end of the term of Fr. Gaa, as parish priest, we started to build a Parish Formation Center. Like when we started building the church, we started with nothing, only with strong conviction that we all trust in Him. In a solemn rites held at the parish on July 21, 2013, Reverend Father Leonides Laguilles was installed as the fourth parish priest of Jesus, Lord of the Divine Mercy Parish. Leo did not have a hard time in his few months as parish priest. At that time, the ministries representing the different sectors of the Church was already in existence. The building and sustaining of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC), is the main pastoral direction of the new pastor. He believe that the BEC is the direction and an expression of a renewed Church, which promote integral evangelization, empowerment of the laity and upliftment of the poor. The active lay members helped Fr. Leo in the crafting and implementation of the parish pastoral plan. During his incumbency, Fr. Leo as he promised during his installation to complete the construction of the St. Faustina Formation Center, a three (3)-storey building beside the Parish Church to serve as the venue for formation and spiritual activities of the JLDMP parishioners. At present, Rev. Rudy Tullibas is the Parish Priest. His assignment was historical as the parish celebrates its 25th Year Founding Anniversary on September 26, 2019 which was also dedicated for his installation as its fifth Parish Priest. More so, the time when we welcome our new Bishop, the Most Reverend Roberto O. Gaa, D.D. The jurisdictional growth of the parish was another aspect in the past and present parish priests looked into, especially with the challenges besetting the Universal Church, today. The Laity of JLDMP has been an ever supportive partner of the parish in the realization of its programs and activities.
