CATECHESIS | Transition of Shepherds: Continued Pastoral Care for Paraรฑaque and Steady Leadership for Cubao

A new chapter of pastoral care has begun for the faithful of Paraรฑaque and Cubao. Following the retirement of Most Reverend Jesse E. Mercado, D.D., after twenty-two years of dedicated service, the Holy See has entered the Diocese of Paraรฑaque into a period of sede vacante (vacant see).

To guide the community through this interim phase, Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Reverend Elias L. Our parish community, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish โ€“ Project 8, joyfully joined and took part in the historic First Grand Marian Procession of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cubao, held on May 31, 2026, at the Most Holy Redeemer Parish, Brixton Hill, Quezon City.

The solemn celebration, presided over by Most Rev. Elias L. Ayuban Jr., CMF, JCD, DD, Bishop of Cubao, began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist together with the priests of the diocese of Cubao.
In a beautiful expression of unity and devotion, the event also celebrated alongside, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity and the Episcopal Coronation of the venerated image of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Brixton Hill.

A total of 22 adorned carrozas from various parishes across the Diocese of Cubao gathered for this historic event presenting sacred images of the Blessed Virgin Mary and other devotional representations, including the Holy Family, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Saint Joseph. Among them were some of the Dioceseโ€™s most revered Marian images, including its three pontifically crowned images and the newly episcopally crowned Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.

United as one diocesan family, the procession is a powerful witness of faith, love, and deep Marian devotion.
