"Our words are carried into the hearts of those we teach in a way that no human effort alone can accomplish."
- Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

This was the charge Elder Soares delivered to hundreds of missionaries gathered at the Manila Missionary Training Center this May 20th, just days before they would leave for their assigned missions across the Philippines and beyond.

Alongside Elder Marcus B. Nash of the Seventy, he taught that the power behind every missionary conversation is not found in memorized lessons or polished delivery. It is found in the quiet, consistent influence of the Holy Ghost, in the willingness to prepare, to pray, to study, and to trust that when a missionary speaks with the Spirit, something changes in the room.

The Church has more than 84,000 full-time teaching missionaries serving in 451 missions in 150 countries worldwide. Thousands of young and senior service missionaries also serve in various capacities.

The Philippines is blessed to be part of the Lord’s hastening work as missionaries continue to share the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the nation. With 26 missions across the country and 5 new missions opening on July 1, 2026.

As the work moves forward, we rejoice in seeing more opportunities for people throughout the Philippines to come unto Christ.

How did one inspired idea help thousands of individuals across the Philippines build a better future?

What began as a revelation from a prophet of God continues to bless individuals and families 25 years later.

The Perpetual Education Fund (PEF) is an inspired program established to help individuals gain education, training, and better employment opportunities through self-reliance. For many families, it became a pathway to hope when education once felt impossible.

Stay tuned for Part 2 on May 29 at 7:00 PM.

More than 600 young single adults gathered on Saturday, May 16, 2026, for a special devotional with Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Young single adults from the Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Consolacion, and Liloan Stakes in Cebu attended in person, while additional stakes and districts joined through broadcast.

Together with Elder Marcus B. Nash, Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr., Elder Chi Hong (Sam) Wong, Elder William K. Jackson, and their wives, they taught principles centered on gospel living, self-reliance, spiritual guidance, and eternal identity.

In his message, Elder Soares reminded the youth that their truest identity is as sons and daughters of Heavenly Father. “You are not here by chance,” he taught. “You were chosen to come to earth at this time.” He encouraged the young single adults to let their identity as children of God guide their choices, strengthen their faith, and draw them closer to Jesus Christ, while seeking the guidance of the Holy Ghost with faith and patience.

For anyone curious about what it’s like to be a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a new video, “What It’s Like Inside the Missionary Training Center,” provides a rare glimpse of mission life inside an MTC from the perspective of the young missionaries who are there.

Missionaries are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who leave their homes for 18 months to 2 years to serve others and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. They begin their service journey at one of the Church’s Missionary Training Centers.

Israel finally stands on the edge of the promised land after generations of waiting, but before them lie real challenges: the Jordan River, the walls of Jericho, and strong nations, as well as the reality of moving forward without Moses. Their journey was not easy, but it was filled with divine assurance and guidance.

This promise brings hope to anyone who feels weighed down by life’s struggles—poverty, uncertainty, disappointment, or even frustration over the challenges in society. For many Filipinos who quietly carry heavy burdens each day, it can sometimes feel like the path forward is unclear or exhausting.

Yet the Lord’s message remains unchanged. Just as He stood with Joshua in difficult battles, He stands with us in ours. He sees every effort to provide for family, every prayer offered in exhaustion, and every quiet act of faith when life feels overwhelming.

Moses reminded the Israelites to remember the Lord not only in times of hardship, but especially in times of comfort and blessing.

In our busy lives today, it can be easy to forget God amid work, studies, responsibilities, and daily routines. But faith grows as we intentionally remember Him through prayer, scripture study, worship, and gratitude.
