Bethel Baptist Church of Quezon City

Bethel Baptist Church of Quezon City The ministry here at Bethel Baptist Church started in 1987 as a mission work under the leadership of an American missionary, Rev. Ed Fleming.

We are an Independent Baptist Church holding to BAPTIST distinctives, and New Hampshire Covenant (provided in our ByLaws), also explained further in 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, and Five Solas. The first worship service was held at an apartment building along Commonwealth Avenue with only 6 families. With the goal to saturate the community with the TRUE GOSPEL and as more people accepted Christ, the church grew and expanded and was later organized as church in 1988.

True Freedom Seeks God’s Glory (The Knowledge of Liberty of Conscience Sermon Series)
Bible Passage: 1 Corinthians 10:23–33

“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. As followers of Christ, we are called to live not for ourselves, but for the glory of God in all things.

Join us this Lord’s Day, May 3, 2026 as we reflect on what true freedom really means, not a freedom to please self, but a freedom to live for God’s glory and the good of others.

Minister of the Word: Ptr. PJ Barros

Come and hear God’s Word preached. See you at church!

We give thanks to the Lord for another day of worship, where we were gathered, edified, and reminded of our calling as His people.

The service began with a warm welcome, followed by Corporate Prayer led by Bro. Ato Agura, committing our time to the Lord.
We were led in congregational singing by Bro. Jack, with Bro. MJ and Bro. Ronnie on guitars, Sis. Jamie on keys, and Bro. JJ, Sis. Halvi, Sis. Chelle, Sis. Harlyn, and Sis. Razeil on backup vocals. Together, we sang “He Is Worthy,” declaring the worthiness of Christ.

The Scripture Reading was led by Bro. Jose Tamaca from Deuteronomy 1:6–8, reminding us of God’s call to move forward in faith according to His promise.

We continued in worship through “Dakilang Katapatan,” reflecting on the Lord’s unchanging faithfulness.

The preaching of the Word was ministered by Ptr. Ed Racho from 1 Corinthians 9:19–27, with the message continuing:
“The Knowledge & Liberty of Conscience”

📖 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲:
The refusal to fully exercise Christian freedom for the sake of the gospel is not only a surrender of one’s rights, but also a call to spiritual discipline for the purpose of gospel ministry.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧:
- 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙡 (v.19–23)
Though Paul was free, he willingly made himself a servant to all—adjusting to Jews, Gentiles, and the weak—not to please men, but to win them for Christ.
His life was driven by one goal:
“I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.”
We are reminded that:
Gospel ministry may require us to step out of our comfort zones
We must distinguish between cultural adaptation and compromise of truth
Our freedom must always be guided by love and the truth of the gospel

- 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙧𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 (v.24–27)
Using the imagery of athletes, Paul exhorted believers to live with self-control and purpose.
We do not run aimlessly, but with intention
We discipline ourselves so that our lives will not be disqualified or lose their reward
A lack of self-control can lead to sin and harm both ourselves and others
The call is clear:
A life useful for the gospel is a life marked by discipline, restraint, and focus on Christ.

📌 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣:
The question for us is not simply, “What am I free to do?”
but, “How can I use—or even limit—my freedom for the sake of the gospel?”

In response, we sang “All Glory Be to Christ,” giving all honor back to our King.

The Offerings and Announcements were led by Bro. Marvin Bacale, followed by the Doxology and Closing Prayer.

📖 “I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” (1 Corinthians 9:27)

May we be a people who not only understand our freedom in Christ, but also wisely surrender and discipline ourselves—for the glory of God and the advance of the gospel.

We thank God for a fruitful afternoon of fellowship and intentional discipleship across all ages—strengthening families, equipping the youth, and nurturing the children in the truth of God’s Word.

👨‍👩‍👧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩
Led by Bro. MJ and Sis. Halvi, couples were taught from a lesson on God’s design for marriage, emphasizing love, respect, and Christ-centered living in the home.

Couples were reminded that:
● Marriage reflects Christ’s love and sacrifice (Eph. 5:25)
● Husbands are called to lead with gentleness, presence, and humility
● Wives are called to respond with respect, grace, and godly submission
● A healthy marriage requires balance, repentance, forgiveness, and dependence on God’s strength

The session highlighted that true harmony in marriage flows from abiding in Christ—the ultimate source of love.

Led by Bro. Francis, the youth continued their study of the New City Catechism, focusing on living out God’s commandments in everyday life.

They were taught that:
● God calls us to choose love over hatred, even toward enemies
● We must guard our hearts and pursue purity in thoughts and actions
● Christians are to walk in honesty, integrity, and generosity in all things

The youth were challenged to live as those transformed by grace—reflecting Christ not just outwardly, but from the heart.

👧👦 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩
Sis. Pia, Sis. Celine, and Sis. Kyla faithfully taught the children New City Catechism Question 10, helping them understand how we glorify God through obedience—especially in honoring Him and respecting those He has placed in authority.

Through simple teaching and interaction, the children were guided to see that:
● We glorify God through worship and obedience
● God calls us to honor and love our parents
● Following God’s commands is part of loving Him

🙏 Truly, it was a day of growing together as one church family—being built up in truth, love, and faithful obedience to Christ.

This Lord’s Day, we were especially reminded of the beauty and weight of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝’𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 (𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒔)—a means of grace given by Christ to His church.

Ptr. Ed emphasized the importance and essence of the Lord’s Supper in the Christian life. It is not merely a ritual, but a sacred ordinance where we:
● Remember Christ’s sacrifice—His body broken and blood shed for our redemption
● Proclaim the gospel—declaring His death until He comes again
● Examine ourselves—approaching the Table with repentance and faith
● Commune together as one body—expressing our unity in Christ

We were reminded that the Table is both deeply personal and beautifully corporate—a visible picture of the gospel and our shared life in Him.

Alongside this, we also read our Church Covenant, serving as a timely reminder that we are not merely attendees or consumers, but committed members of Christ’s body.

As a covenant people, we are called to:
● Actively participate in the life of the church
● Pursue the edification of the saints
● Faithfully engage in the proclamation of the gospel
● Live for the glory of God in all things

This Lord’s Day calls us to reflect:
We do not come to the Table casually, nor do we belong to the church passively.

Rather, we come as a redeemed people, bound together by Christ—called to love, serve, and build one another up.

📖 “Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10:17)

May we continue to treasure the Lord’s Table and live out our covenant commitments with joy, humility, and gospel-centered purpose.

We praise God for another Lord’s Day gathering, where His people were called to worship, sit under His Word, and commune together in Christ.

The service began with a warm welcome as everyone was greeted by the Ramirez Family, reminding us of the joy of gathering as one body.

Ptr. Ed led a meaningful teaching from the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith on the Lord’s Supper, helping us prepare with reverence and right understanding as we approached the Lord’s Table.

Our congregation lifted praises through singing led by Bro. JJ, with Bro. MJ on guitars, Sis. Jamie on keys, and Sis. Halvi and Sis. Chelle on backup vocals. We sang “All Creatures of Our God and King,” exalting our great Creator.

The Scripture Reading was led by Bro. Rolly Ramirez from Deuteronomy 1:1–5, pointing us to God’s faithful dealings with His people.

We continued in worship through “Jesus, Thank You,” rejoicing in the finished work of Christ.

The preaching of the Word was ministered by Ptr. PJ from 1 Corinthians 9:1–18, with the message titled:
“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 & 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐩 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭”

📖 Message Summary:
God gives His servants legitimate rights, yet love for the gospel may lead us to willingly surrender those rights so that Christ is proclaimed without hindrance.

Key truths from the sermon:

1️⃣ 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 (v.1–6)
Paul defended his apostleship—he had seen the risen Christ, and the Corinthians themselves were the fruit of his ministry. Like other ministers, he had the right to provision, marriage, and support.
2️⃣ 𝑺𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 (v.7–14)
Through common sense, the Law (Deut. 25:4), and even temple practice, Paul showed that those who labor in the gospel have the right to receive material support.
3️⃣ 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒍 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 (v.15–18)
Despite having these rights, Paul chose not to use them. Why? So that nothing would hinder the gospel. His conviction was clear:
“Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”
His reward was the privilege of preaching Christ freely.

Application:
Christian freedom must always be governed by love for the gospel. We are called not merely to ask, “𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒎 𝑰 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐?” 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, “𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒖𝒑?”

Ultimately, Paul reflects the heart of Christ Himself:
📖 “He humbled himself… to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:5–8)

In response, we sang “All I Have Is Christ,” declaring that Christ alone is our hope and treasure.

We then partook in The Lord’s Table, administered by Ptr. Ed, sharing in the communion of the saints as we remembered Christ’s sacrifice.

The Offerings and Announcements were led by Bro. Ronnie, followed by the Doxology and Closing Prayer, giving all glory back to God.

May we be a people who gladly lay down our rights, comforts, and preferences—so that Christ may be known and the gospel may advance.

We thank God for another Lord’s Day spent in worship, fellowship, and the ministry of His Word.

The service was opened with a warm welcome from the Orio Family, together with Ezra and Nicko. We were then led in Corporate Prayer by Bro. MJ Barros, committing our gathering to the Lord.

Our hearts were prepared through congregational singing led by Bro. Francis Lambina, with Bro. Ronnie Watiwat on guitars, sisters Bibly & Sarah on keys, and sisters Eden & Tata on backup vocals. We sang “Rock of Ages,” lifting our praise to Christ our sure foundation.

The Scripture Reading was led by Bro. Lawrence Alcantara from Numbers 36:10–13, reminding us of God’s faithfulness in preserving His people according to His will.

We continued in worship through the song “My Worth is Not in What I Own,” anchoring our identity in Christ alone.

The preaching of the Word was ministered by Ptr. Ed from 1 Corinthians 8:1–13, with the sermon titled:
“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 & 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞”

We were reminded that:
● 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 — knowledge alone can puff up, but love builds up the church.
● 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒛𝒆𝒔 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 — we must not misuse truth to justify careless living.
● 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒎 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 — willingly limiting our liberty for the sake of weaker brethren.

The call of the message is clear:
𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦. 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦.

We responded in worship through “In Christ Alone,” rejoicing in our unity and salvation in Him.

The service concluded with offerings, announcements, a time to Reflect & Discuss, and the Doxology and Closing Prayer.

📖 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4)

May we continue to walk in both truth and love—for the glory of God and the good of His church.

Soli Deo Gloria!
