Diocese of Cubao - Basic Ecclesial Communities A new way of being a church, the church in the neighborhood. These communities are united to their pastors, but are ministered to regularly by the lay leaders.

BEC defines as a “Community of Disciples that is in union with Christ, rooted on the Word of God and the Eucharist; in communion with one another, in the spirit of fellowship and sharing; and in mission, serving others and working for social transformation.”

They are small communities of Christians, usually of families who gather together around the Word of God and the Eucharist. The members know each other by name, and share not only the word of God and the Eucharist but also their concerns both material and spiritual. They have a strong sense of belongingness and of responsibility for one another. (P*P II # 38)
