An Update on Missionary Addison Worwood ๐ค
Here is a gentle update on Addison, who was struck by a car on September 22 while crossing the street.
Yesterday afternoon, I was able to spend several hours with Addison. She is becoming much more alert and kept her eyes open for most of the time I was with her. She is beginning to follow people briefly with her eyes and is moving her arms and legs more often, seemingly trying to find more comfortable positions๐ฅน๐ค
We are still waiting for her to respond to simple commands, such as squeezing a hand. It is difficult to know exactly what she can hear or understand right now, so everyone around her is simply doing their best to create a peaceful, familiar, and comforting environment as she gradually regains more awareness.
Her parents play her favorite music, and she has enjoyed little private violin concerts with familiar hymns and Primary songs. Her new friends from Tennessee have softly sung hymns to her, and she is also being read conference talks and passages from the scriptures. Her medical team and parents keep talking to her throughout the day.
Her nurses have been absolutely wonderful, caring for her with such tenderness and helping her remain as comfortable as possible. It has been especially touching to see Jennie step in and lovingly say, โI can help with that.โ
The love and support from the missionaries, mission leaders, and members of the Johnson City Stake have been overwhelming. Someone even brought a donut truck to the hospital on their day off so the missionaries could deliver fresh, warm donuts to the ICU staff. It was such a sweet expression of gratitude, and they were a huge hit!
Addison also seems especially aware when her companions are mentioned, and she continues to respond beautifully to the presence of her companion. We love them all so very much.
Her hospital room has become a sacred and beautiful place, filled with photographs of Addison and her family, pictures of the Savior, scriptures, quotes, watercolor paintings, and handmade cards. Fresh flowers were even brought into the room. Everything has helped make the space feel warm, peaceful, and safe.
The enormous windows overlooking Buffalo Mountain bring in so much beautiful natural light.
Physically, we are seeing encouraging changes. The color has returned to Addisonโs skin, the swelling in her head has decreased significantly, and her brown hair is beginning to grow back. Her tracheostomy seems to be going well, although she is still adjusting to it.
Above all, Addisonโs parents have been warriors of love. Those of us blessed to witness them through this journey have seen their courage, resilience, humility, strength, and incredible tenderness. Most of all, we have witnessed the deep, unconditional, and beautiful love they have for their daughter.๐ฉท
We continue to pray for Addison, her family, her companions, and everyone caring for her. We are grateful for every small sign of progress and for the Lordโs tender mercies along the way๐ธโจ
